How do you keep your feet on the ground, when you know you were born to fly?

Name: nickp
Distance: 10K
Race: Herts 10K
Location: Harpenden, Hertfordshire, England
Goal: An ambitious sub-38.
Current PR is 39:15 or something so this would be a big improvement. The race is meant to be busy at the start and to have a couple of bottlenecks so a poor starting position in the corral will scupper any hope of a good time.

Facing up to reality and acknowledging my "therapy" of intensive wishful thinking has not in fact healed my knee...I dropped down to the half marathon at the expo today.
And now I also have a fever and seem to be sick as well. Oh well, Trent does that all of the time, right?

*However my prediction is a spectacular flame-out because I've agreed to be a back-up pacer through 13 mi for someone who's going for 3:35. Bonus is that I get to learn what it feels like to be a zombie.

8K XC Gene Davis Invite Appleton, WI
It's a local college race, so I'm going to get my ass handed to me. I have no time goal, and I don't have a good idea of the level of competition, so I'll just try to get as close to the front as possible.
There was a point in my life when I ran. Now, I just run.

All the same for me. Including the carcass part...just wanna cross the finish as a non-carcass.
<start disclaimer> Since I committed to it in the sub 3 thread a few weeks ago, I'll ante up, but at this point not real confident due to the forecast going up a few degrees every day for Sunday. If the start temperature is above 70 on Sunday, I'm going to say screw it and use it as a long run for the DPR 50 mile. Not really in great shape for a 50, but it beats going all out for a shitty time in a 26 miler. </end disclaimer>

Pacing the first half of a marathon at substantially sub-goal pace is ballsy.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
