TC 1 Mile - Brutal race...nothing but head winds from start to finish.
1st Place Masters and 4th Place Overall for the USATF MN Team Championships.
I even won me some money!. I'm stopping for a overpriced latte on the way to work tomorrow.
Drink n Run
TC 1 mile - I am with Willie on the headwind. Brutal.
As noted, I was undertrained and not really ready. I also flew back the the cities from Pittsburgh yesterday afternoon to get home for the race.
I'm pretty happy about it, actually.
52 miles; heat exhaustion. 89 degrees and very little shade.
I started, finished, and did not die. Having not run in the past 3 weeks, I have a better appreciation of 'being acclimated' to the weather.
Summer has arrived!
Guess it went well. Legs cooperated as much as possible, but wasnt my best day. Upside was that I readjusted and didnt crash and burn. Well.. a little but it wasnt a horrific mess.
Run for the Rhubarb 5k
New Lebanon NY
Sombrero fail; won a pie. 2nd OA, 1st male; got chicked on my way to a 19:59 on that hilly-ass course.
Bay to Breakers
Didn't get arrested. The thong was actually pretty comfortable, except the sequins chafed.
Ran 48:57. Given the Hayes St. Hill, I'm happy with that. Beat the gorilla. Had the dubious distinction of being the first bare-assed finisher.
After the first 14 miles the four of us were in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place. It was the first time during the run that I didn't feel sore. I checked to make sure everyone was feeling fine. And I took off to catch the 1st place runner. (Yeah I'm way too competitive; plus I like a good challenge). I caught him and kept on hammering, it felt so good to be running fast!

Good Luck George!
Now for a thread hijack
what do you think of the Pfitz 18/70 training plan? I'm sure you will have a more informed opinion on Sunday, but I'm curious since I started the plan today for my September marathon.
I'm pretty freaked out by some of the faster paced workout that come up so early in training
HobbyJogger & HobbyRacer
Sat, 6hr race, goal = 36mi (32.3 is last year's mark)
Sun, 10K, goal = hmm, 40min sounds ambitious enough
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Thanks Eric. I really liked it. That was the first time I've ever followed a formal training program. Yeah, I was a little freaked out by the marathon pace work early on too. But the early MP run was a good confidence boost early on. I got nicked up and missed another. I also think you can sub a half for some of the marathon pace work to make it more fun. Overall I felt like it pushed me without breaking me down. The rest and recovery days always seemed to fall at the right time. The toughest runs for me were the mid-week 14 and 15 milers, since I had to get up at 4am to get them in before work.

I picked up a hijacker once and gave him a ride to an airport. maybe he was on his way to a marathon
ANYWHO - Pfitz. My current program with 4 weeks countdown to go to Grandma's is a mix of a program I got from a coach and Pfitz 18/70.
so far so good and my running has improved each week. Now the trick is to stick with it, stay away from injuries and officially say it worked for me. Being a masters runner, I have learned to appreciate and respect the day of rest which is scheduled weekly. This past week was supposed to be a 14 mile MP tempo run, but I opted to throw myself in a 1/2 Marathon (5 weeks out from Marathon) and it was perfect timing. I know I ran it faster than marathon pace but it was controlled and huge confidence booster for the big 26.2 ahead.
