I often feel like we don't help people enough with the wealth of knowledge that this group has.  I think this might be a job best for Candice but maybe some of you others might be able to help as well!

    2013 Goals:

    • Sub 18:30 5K ()
    • Sub 1:29:30 1/2 marathon (1:29:52 try at Heart Mini 3-18-2012 )
    • Sub 3:010:00 Marathon ()

There really have been a crapload of teach me to run threads in GSP.

But more seriously - I need help. I'm going to VT tonight to drink my face off for the next three nights. How many seconds will I lose from next weekend's 5k with no face? And, if six 37-40 year old men play Beruit, what is the most effective / efficient beer to use? Effective = not puke. Efficient = Still be able to "ski"/snowshoe/run the next day.

But Och! I backward cast my e'e, On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see, I guess an' fear!

I'm saving myself for "guess my time" threads. Good times.

Negative splits are the way to go. Awesome.

I'm kind of torn.  Maybe you guys could tell me which response would be best to post.

The jackass in me wants to type one of these:

            • Why the fuck are you just running 2 miles.
            • 11:00 pace is not running but more like walking at worst and at best jogging..  I know this as I have been their.
            • Is it a hilly course?  If so maybe you could sprint the first mile and the tuck and roll to the finish?
            • This is a running community not a walking community.  Ask running questions.  The start with at least a 5k race.
            • Find AROD so he can give you some PED's
            • Find the Crimson Tide players and they can get you some deer spray.
            • PM MikeyMike as he can give you some great advice and loves to help new runners.

The nice guy in me wants to respond with:

Hey <Insert real name here>  getting started is always the hardest part of running.  Glad to see you are trying to improve.  Will this be an actual race?  If so you usually end up running faster then if you were running by yourself.  Most people start off too fast and then fade at the end.  Just run a good solid pace for the first mile and then look to pass people in the 2nd mile.  Make it a fun game.   Best of luck with the run/race and keep up the good work.

Damn I spent more time trying to amuse you idiots then it would take me to run 2 miles.  Fucking waste of time.  Carry on losers.

1.5 miles in under 11 minutes.   Sounds like a fitness test.  7:30 pace?

I think you should suggest that he work up to 70 miles a week first, then start some speed training.

There was a point in my life when I ran. Now, I just run.

It's a military or police academy fitness test. Unfortunately if you've been a sedentary slab your whole life you can't really do much about it in 7 days. Alas.

                      I helped.

It's almost a comet topic isnt it.  Help.  I waited until there is nothing anyone can do to help me and now it is too late.  HELP.

My former coworker repeatedly would ask me for help to pass his military running test, but then go with the tried and true once a week run a mile and a half as fast as possible and then rest up for the next time.

Last time his training plan consisted going on a low cholesterol diet because he found out his cholesterol was slightly elevated and "I think that is making my blood thick which makes it harder to breathe".  Yes avoiding shrimp and eggs will make you run faster.
