We've Got Big Hills
"Confiscated". Heh. So are you against any government?
The NFL has more dollars to sell the product than the grassroots organization did to keep it out. So the grassroots lost the referendum.
I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.
Poor baby
Prince of Fatness
Your "simple" fact is complicated by the fact that it was the government that freed the slaves, established desegragation here in the south, etc, etc. Many people were pissed about this use of their tax money. Government also makes poor decisions with our money, like going to war based on a lie. Your position is the extremely radical one that all government should be disbanded. Are you an anarchist?
And let's leave what think that the government should be doing out of this, it's not relevant to my point. I'm talking cost transparency.
There is a long dark road ahead of me.
How on earth did I get sucked into this conversation? I hate talking about this stuff. Everyone has their own perspective and the problem is bigger than any of us are going to solve, especially here in the Swamp. I'm better off putting my energy to other things, like working more.
So, I'm leaving to get my kids off the bus. If you guys could solve this before I return at around 8:00 tonight wthout taking any more of my money, I'd appreciate it.
mr train you are a pain, your words - they make me go insane
they strike my ever-thinking brain like little drops of acid rain
oh, to my life you are a bane; crazy, mixed up, mr train - r2e
Explain how this: And how do we work through the simple fact that time after time the government has proven that they are the last entity that should be managing our money / wealth / property? Why enable them to mismanage even more? entails a different conclusion. Government can't be the only answer to the problem, but it is one of the few institutions in American life that has close to the power that the richest institutions in American life have. So, it must play a role.

See prior post. So you think that from a pure cost transparency perspective the government is most efficient? Any business run like our government is run would be out of business.
How on earth did I get sucked into this conversation?
I know, right?
What I currently see is this: My property tax dollars are being used to support the NFL and the Titans' owner. My property and state taxes are not being used to address the dismal educational system Because I spend these dollars on taxes, I have nothing leftover for a private education for my kiddos I understand redistribution as taking away from the super rich and giving to society in a way that supports the middle class
What I currently see is this:
Don't forget your Federal Tax dollars going to subsidize multi-million dollar agri-business producing HFCS so that other portions of your Federal Tax dollars go treating obesity-related health issues.
Any business run like our government is run would be out of business.
YES. And as corrupt as the uber-rich and corporations may be, our government is not without same flaws. Pick your poison. Economically, if I'm a venture capitalist, no way the government gets my money if I had a choice. In an ideal world, I would view this differently and would be happy to pay, because I would have confidence in the outcome.
Like AIG?
Yep.
Who set up that system?
Yep. Who set up that system?
I dunno. The Nashville School Administrators?
The Nashville School Administrators set up federal farm subsidies and are paying for obesity-related morbidity on Mississippi?
"Confiscated". Heh. So are you against any government? The NFL has more dollars to sell the product than the grassroots organization did to keep it out. So the grassroots lost the referendum.
You caught that.
Nope - not against any government. Used the word to make a point. Government can take, at the point of a gun if needed, from the population. That makes it a very dangerous entity with respect to individual liberty. Can the super rich become more altruistic by relationships instead of force? Case in point, Simon Cancer Center - funded by some uber wealthy types because they saw it as the right thing to do and because they have a direct relationship. Can Al Gore spend some of his millions to develop scholarship endowments in his home town of Nashville so kids can attend presitgeous schools? Or should he jet around the world and tell us how to live our lives while he does as he pleases and sets up businesses to become even richer through his well marketed dribble? Could others there do the same if properly convinced? Charity begins at home. Government can force it but it creates class warfare IMO.
And yes, the NFL has more dollars and a better marketing group than the grassroots but no one said a representative republic was easy. Indy faces a similar issue with both the football and basketball facilities. They need more money. Problem is that the pols know if they work this "sweatheart deal" they will be out on their ear at this time. So they increases taxes on things not used by us locals like hotels, cabs, etc. in hopes it will work. Personally, the sports issue is a huge problem. You typically don't see government paying for the buildings of other businesses and letting them lease these out to profit. Tax abatements and land perhaps, but not the major infrastructure. This is wrong and I enjoy the NFL. The product needs to fund itself or go away. But I'm tangeting.
Didn't Obama buy AIG and GM. Are they getting any better under the new management? Would you buy their products now or in the future?
Well they're clearly not paying attention to the local school system.
Didn't Obama buy AIG and GM.
No. You did.
