You don't know SHIT about me.
You don't know much of anything about me but yet determined that I am an anarchist. The interwebs are wonderful, aren't they?
There is a long dark road ahead of me.

I wonder where to start.
Its the Darth Tater thing that confuses people. The dark side and all that.
In the absence of information people are forced to infer. It's a reasonable question if wanting context. This is no Oprah board where you have to bear your soul (thank Gd) but it helps to know who's talking or lecturing. If you're not wanting to fill in the blanks - that's cool - but if you can dish then you can take too. Grain of salt. Its the friggin internet already.
As far as the implication I drew: you claimed it is a fact that the government always mismanages money. The only reasonable implication to draw from such a statement is it should never manage any money.
OK, we're doing the exact word thingy, so let's take a look....
And how do we work through the simple fact that time after time the government has proven that they are the last entity that should be managing our money / wealth / property? Why enable them to mismanage even more?
Look, I've admitted that I am cynical. I don't trust the government with my money. In fact I really don't trust my government period. Maybe it's because my state is a microcosm of this whole mess that we are talking about. You want to talk about schools? Google Abbott District NJ or School Construction Fund NJ. You'll find a lot in the way of mismanagement and very little in the way of results. If it is really all about the kids you could have fooled me. We are at the top of the list in money spent per pupil yet the high school that my kids have since graduated from has about 20 trailers outside of it because a new school cannot be completed because the school construction fund got pissed away. Yet the answer is alway we need more money so let's raise taxes. This is just an example of why I am so cynical.
All that said I am still hoping against hope that Obama succeeds whether you believe it or not.
What does Tunis make?
Not only am I generally disappointed in the pork-barrel nature of our legislature, but I am also disappointed by what seems to me to be the disproportional influence of appearance, nature, bearing, and general disposition of candidates.
Certainly I notice it in myself. I experience emotional reactions to particular candidates words, and the themes their campaigns run. This distracts me from questions of policy. Naturally I myself am the last person I'm going to blame, so I blame the PR/propaganda organizations of the two evil towers (that is, the two major political parties).
I admit this all is at best tangential to a discussion of property rights and just purpose and extent of gov't. In fact, this isn't even tangential. I just got rambling.
Isn't this a bit of a paradox, to want to allow people keep the fruit of their labors, but not undeserved goods -- because, most people are going to want to pass the fruits of their labors on to their offspring. So, someone works hard, builds a small fortune, as the fruit of his (or her labors), and then passes it to his offspring -- which are thereby the Paris Hilton, rich kids in possession of unearned wealth.
My point is that this is not the exception, but this is the very expected outcome; that is what people want to do with their earnings -- pass them to their children.
I do not propose any answer herein; I rather solicit ideas on how to resolve this apparent conflict between goals (allow people to keep the fruit of their labors, so as to preserve the very underlying incentive that drives capitalism, but disallow the hoarding and amassing of ever larger fortunes by the idle few -- the bimodality of wealth inequality supposedly threatening the US).
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

the school construction fund got pissed away.
and some people say passing a kidney stone is painful.

Should the government impose taxes?
Who should bear the burden of these taxes?
What should these taxes be used for?
Is there a governmental role for supporting the dispossessed?
I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.

Define government.
Is there anyone that shouldn't pay taxes?
Who exactly are the dispossessed?
Do you think local charities and houses of worship have a primary or secondary role in helping?
A lot of dogma has been thrown around. I thought maybe I'd simply ask some basic questions.
And C-R, I did not realize that a definition for government was potentially contentious.
