The gov't must tax, the Continental Congress lacked such authority and look what problems that caused.
Everyone should be taxed (even if the amount is insignificant, the top 10% already pay like 90% of the revenue). People don't appreciate that which they aren't paying for.
What to use it for? None of us will live long enough to debate that. IMHO a lot less than they do. Right now everyone seems to expect them to pay for everything but tax someone else.
Government trying to "take care" of people led to an unsustainable underfunded entitlement called social security which was meant to help a few, but doesn't really pay enough to support anybody. Worse yet most were better off the old way where younger family took care of the elderly, this was a nail in the coffin to that social tradition. Government just socialized it and made it more expensive. One can debate where the line is but the status quo, between SS and welfare, is far from an ideal or even sustainable state. We do not have enough workers to support upcoming retirees. No easy solution to this one.

It may snow again in Nashville on Friday. Snow makes Nashvillians crazy.
I woke up to 2 - 3 inches of snow this morning but the roads were fine. However, I did hear rumblings of a foot Friday night into Saturday.
