Nice Ass!

Yeah, i think it's up to the professor. That's the word I've gotten. I'm here and teaching if anyone wants to come. We're looking at Aristotle's Physics, Book II, sections 1, 2, and 3.

8.5 miles.  1:30.  Snow and wind and slush.  Good fun.  But so friggin slow.

I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.

          Poor baby

glad they plowed the roads but the sidewalks are deadly.  i should classify my run today as an urban trail run.  my knees and ankles are quite sore.  but got my 10 in!

I've noticed a pattern about you Nashvillains complaining about the weather (and you do it a lot).  If you complain that it is too hot, it's usually about 50 here (at least at 5 am).  If you complain that it is freezing and snowing it's usually about 50 here.  We hit both 9F and 105F last year, but apparently you were happy with the weather on those days.

Needless to say it is about 50 here today.

A report at 9 a.m. from the National Weather Service indicates that significant winter weather will impact most of the Mid-state. Four to eight inches of snow are expected near and north of I-40. Locally, higher amounts are possible. The North Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been partially opened.  The phone number is 322-4362.

Please refer to your EOC reference guide for instructions and assess your staffing needs for the next 24-48 hours, based on your patient acuity and volumes. Please see Thursday's MyVUMC at http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/myvumc/index.html?article=8189&utmsource=Janua for information about a list of hotels in the area offering weather-related room discounts for Vanderbilt employees.

In Cleveland, we consider 4-8 inches of snow a light dusting.

In it for the long run..

Indoors again for me.  Our streets and sidewalks are still very icy, although a lot of melting is now going on.  My driveway is MORE slippery, for some reason, and even with 4 wheel drive I could not get up it this afternoon.

I have lived in snowy places.  The 4-8 inches here is far tougher than the 2 feet in Chicago because Nahville does nothing to clear it and Nashville drivers who have no business attempting to drive in this, go out and drive ~2 mph and slow down whenever they get more scared.  Chicago clears the roads and folks know how to drive on the packed snow and ice so it is all much safer.  I was in Boston 2 weeks ago; they got 6 " of snow overnight and the next day the roads were clear and the drivers solid.

+1  Where I live there is no snow removal equipment.  No sanding, salting etc.   When we had the big snow last winter the roads were undriveable even in my 4WD with snow tires and chains for about 5 days after the thaw started (it was worse when the thaw started because then ruts started forming in the unplowed roads that were higher than the clearance of my subaru).  At this point it was going on 2 1/2 weeks and no snow equipment was ever seen.

People get stuck here because they think spinning the tires faster will help. And people have shit tires here.  And believe that 4WD = 4Wstop.

I've lived in Cleveland and MN.  I remember going to finals in Cleveland with an overnight dumping of 14 inches of snow (that sucked I had to walk 2 miles)  - I would rather drive there with 14 inches of snow then here with 2.

I think that is the first time I have seen this assertion in my whole life....

North of a line running from Milwaukee through north of Detroit, people pretty much remember how to drive in snow year to year.  South of that line you stay the hell of the road the first couple bad days, because despite the fact that winter returns each year people somehow completely forget that cars slide on ice/snow and all hell breaks loose.  South of the Ohio River, people never really learn and each storm is a repeat of Bad Driving 101.

I think you have to add in the "on snow" part.   I swear Cleveland drivers are BETTER in the snow.

Well, when I have driven in snowy conditions in Chicago and in Boston and in NYC, other drivers on the road have been fine.  Heck, even in Louisville, folks seem to be able to handle it.  Not here in Nashville.
