    Yup.

      Damn!!!

If it turns out to be the high water mark of my running I think I'll be fine with it, but that doesn't mean I won't try like hell to raise the bar before my tired old legs give up on me.

Still tryin' and still doin'. Man.

Ha, I thought you were quoting his remarks on the 1:19, until I looked at the date.

There is almost no rhyme or reason to runs like this,

Has there been a drop off in intensity in your training?

A few folks I know who left 40 in the rear view mirror many years ago have run recent age group PRs, even at distances as short as 400meters, off training where they have been not hammered any workouts for a while.

MTA: optimum recovery to race intensity seems to take weeks for people of a certain vintage.

              The process is the goal.

Men heap together the mistakes of their lives, and create a monster they call Destiny.

I can't speak for BadDawg as to whether he's had a recent drop off in intensity, I would simply point out that you can't compare his results to other masters who've been running for decades.  If you look at his training progression, the fact that he's running his best ever times right now should not come as a big surprise (the fact that his bests are so fast is another matter.)

Rhyme and reason: BadDawg figured out pretty quick how to make things simple.

The guy has mastered the secret: consistency, regular speedy work, staying injury free, and racing a bunch. He hasn't skipped any steps, just gradually increased his volume. Oh yeah, and maybe most important the guy is having a ton of fun doing it.

Really, though, I think the secret is the hair!

I don't generally spend a lot of time looking in the rearview mirror, so that's a really interesting graphic for me mikey.  Something like this will make me pause and reflect on my good fortune from a number of angles.  Makes me smile, laugh, and feel tired all at once.

I really do enjoy this running thing tremendously, and the fact that I will probably never stop trying to figure it out is a big part of that.  I do know that I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the running community, including the RunningAHEAD idiots (especially the Great and Powerful Eric) and the merry band of IRL idiots that hang around in Lowell, and Woburn and Arlington.

I know I'll be chewing on this for a while, but you'll have to wait for me to share little pieces of thoughts.  That's the way my tiny little ADD brain works (or doesn't work as the case may be).

                        And y'all are too kind.

In my limited experience with BD, this is the most apparent thing.  He's smiling all the time, and even his log entries are mostly sunny.  I've been consistent until recently, but the fun is sometimes missing.  Eventually that has led to lapses and poor performance for me.  The fact that he's been consistent for such a long time and loving it is something to inspire to.
