Explain Hockey To Me (Read 1361 times)

So, I watched the final two periods last night, and I can see why people enjoy hockey: it's sort of like watching soccer, but on a tiny pitch that amplifies the intensity.

What are the basic strategies? It looked to me like there was just one: skate around as fast as you can and plow into other people.

How the heck do those guys handle the puck when it's zipping around like that?

It appears that hockey teams have cheerleaders, too. This is a Phoenix Suns cheerleader.

You forgot the "have occasional fight so we can bloody up the rink so the cheerleaders will come out and the zamboni can drive around" strategy.

IMO - hockey is best seen live.

I took my son to a game when he was five or six. He thought it was hilarious that that the big guys got timeouts just like him.

Passion is a rather frightening thing because if you have passion you don't know where it will take you.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Not to diminish the awesomeness of that picture, but Phoenix Suns = hoops.

And +1 on seeing hockey live.  You get a much better understanding of the nuances of the game when you can see the whole rink.

I looked up Preds cheerleaders, and that's just what came up. I blame Google.

Okay, yeah, I watched hockey live once and it was stupid crazy because I had no idea where the puck was. It looked like some sort of macho nutcracker without the music. At least on TV you've got the announcers to help out.

I like how there's some kind of penalty for something called "icing" but nobody really knows what it is, or maybe they just can't explain it.

              "run" "to" "eat"

jeffer - hockey is easy to understand. it's how yankees play soccer when their world is all frozen over.

                  Thank you.

I kept anticipating an icing call whenever they would just throw the puck way down the ice because I think it has something to do with that, but apparently not. I would yell out ICING! at all the wrong moments. It sucks being a stupid fan.

                  "run" "to" "eat"

it's not icing if the other team is on a power play.

                        Ah! That explains so much.

Okay, explain this now. We have 5 players. They have 3. How come we can't put the GDMN puck in the GDMN net?

                        "run" "to" "eat"

it's also not icing if the goalie or the offense gets to the puck first.

as to your 5-3 numbers question, that would be because the preds suck a bit at scoring.

but the preds do have a really fancy girl who can do some fancy spinny moves on the ice while the zamboni is zamboniing.
