Didn't help you beat me on the YTD board in 2009!
I was coughing up both my lungs for the past 3 weeks (still am). I didn't give a shit about you anymore. There's always 2010
How do you keep your feet on the ground, when you know you were born to fly?

I'd be more likely to try your feat substituting beers for miles right now than doing the running. I ran 400 and change a few times in a month (maybe 430?) and it HURT. EVery. Day. Of course, I'm assuming you won't be putting 3 workouts/week into this schedule either so I'll go 490 on my vote.
2012 goals: Fastest race times since 2006.
What does Tunis make?
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
I fly.
Bring it on.

if you don't run, you'll rust. [tom petty] ..... i just wanna get back on track, even if it kills me. [motion city soundtrack] ..... if i only could be running up that hill, with no problems. if only i could, be running up that hill. [kate bush] ..... still running in place [alkaline trio] ..... at least i'll try and run, and run tonight, everything will be alright [the killers] ..... don't give up the distance. [flavio the magnificent]
I am currently on page 4 of the YTD distance list. Other than on the 1st (which was a special occasion) I've basically run only what I needed to for that day. Well, starting tomorrow, what I need to run is going to start bringing me closer to the bunny again, and within a few days I'll have caught him. In fact, it'll happen by this weekend. Then all I need to do is stay healthy enough through the end of the month to not have to stop running, since the mileage is going to get piled on going forward. 6 miles tomorrow, 7 the day after, 8 on Friday, 9 and 10 on Saturday and Sunday, and so on up to the 31st. Whoo boy. Fun part's only a few days away now...recovery week is about to be over. By the way...who wants to set the over under on how many miles I actually make it? (The goal is 500 miles by the end of the month.)

Good luck to you Blaine. No doubt we'll fawn over you come the fourth week.

Nobody can run 6 miles tomorrow, 7 the day after, 8 on Friday, 9 and 10 on Saturday and Sunday, and so on up to the 31st.
No one can eat 50 eggs either.
Run2Win's task is formidable, but not impossible
Check the Nov 2008 archives of a similar challenge here. Tapping out on Day 31 is not unheard of
Fortune and glory kid
my guess is 502
Kevin
Yeah, but in how long?
(Clearly I failed at this....)

As Lloyd pointed out...it's been done before. And the guy that won the first challenge like this had never done an ultra before.
Good luck hitting the 500. But it's too bad that you didn't wait until February, then you'd only have to go up to 28 miles on the last day...
I originally chose January because I broke my foot and didn't feel I'd recovered enough to do the official challenge in November when it was supposed to happen. But, it didn't happen, and since somebody else thought about doing it in January, the official challenge got moved to January. So, I set up my own fund raising commitments, got all set...and then the actual challenge again didn't happen in January. So, I'm doing it alone
Hopefully he gets the Just 10 More Miles Challenge kicked off this month at least, and either way, it will be a new experience for me.
The bunny is my bitch. I slapped it in the ears on the way by today. I'd be more likely to try your feat substituting beers for miles right now than doing the running. I've run over 400 miles probably 4 or 5 times...with the most being in that 420-430 mile range. But all that was over a decade ago. The most I've run since graduating college is 315 miles in a month once, I think...with a couple of months at a bit under 300 miles.
One advantage that I have now over what I was doing a decade ago is that I run a helluvalot slower now, and most of my running will be on trails instead of on roads, and I'm a lot more experienced at keeping myself well fueled. That's what I'm telling myself at any rate...
I'll be the "Hater". I say you dont' get over 350.
Thanks! That's the real motivation behind this thread (well, once you get past the potential for having something to brag about and the hope that a few folks decide to donate to a good cause...).
You see what Thunder did there? He thinks his method of pissing people off to reach their goals works Best of luck Blaine. I don't think you'll have a problem reaching your goal at all.

Ahh, Candice already pegged it...I'm late to the game as usual...heheh.
Thanks all. Whether you donate or not, I highly recommend keeping an eye on the daily updates...especially in a few weeks from now when things are actually challenging and I start showing my fatigue

That's ok, now you & Lloyd both owe me all your points.
Damn...forgot about that game.
