2000 Miles of synced tweaking

This place is starting to remind me of the good ole days... (Read 578 times)

Of a couple of years ago. I don't post a lot in here, but I read a lot of it, and this seems eerily familiar to 2008. I like the snark, I like the debates. I like the confrontation.

But the big difference between now and a few years ago is that the membership is broader. While we had debates and arguments in 2008, they were between people who knew each other, or understood each other, or were somehow connected to Nashville. Or mikeymike.

In 2010, when these things flare up, it's with a broader group of participants that don't know each other as well. And people get offended when others they don't know critique them or flame them.

Here's what we need to remember:
  1. It's the swamp. Expect debate, confrontations, and arguments. Would we all be here if this was the same as the GSP? If you want hand-holding and unfounded encouragement, see Runner's World forums. Not the swamp.
  2. People act they way they always act, there hasn't been a change. The only thing that's different is that the new kids on the block don't know the regulars, and vice-versa. Whose fault is that? No one's. Deal with it. If you don't like Candice, or mikeymike, or willamona, or WrigleyGirl, oh well.
  3. The new participants participate a lot initially to get more involved and expose themselves more. In a good and bad way.
  4. Who cares what someone on the message board says about you? You can respond however you see fit. You can attack people if you so choose. Just don't be surprised when people then begin to form opinions about you. It happens. Oh well.
And I have to say... I don't know a lot of the new people, and that's okay. I don't think I like a lot of them. But hey, that's just me.

Sweet.  I was hoping this would get stickied.

2008, indeed.

For the record I find the whole concept of stickied threads unswampy.  And I know that I have, at times, been the one doing the stickying.

I thought that was what I said?

I was just agreeing with you and (sadly) explaining the sarcasm which apparently is now necessary in the new swamp.

That doesn't mean that our singlets will be the reverse color, does it?

The Seahawks did that this year and it wasn't pretty. I think that's why I don't see well while driving at night anymore...

<mini taper like rant due to the break in my 46 day running streak!>

Fuck off.  I can get offended if I want to.  And I don't care if you like me or not.  I don't like most of the old people.  Bunch of grumpy people unwilling to help the newbies with their stupid questions.  As if they never had stupid questions when they started running.
