# dimensional analysis (Read 474 times)

HobbyJogger & HobbyRacer

Just discovered this:

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

I have a feeling that's funny.

Runners run.

I like xkcd. This one is indeed funny and the math works well.

And it leads to a fascinating consequence. With less than a gallon of gas in the Prius, it can fuel its journey over a hypothetical (and extensible) bridge across the English Channel. As the Prius economy is improved, England drifts out to sea, but the improved economy means that the stretched bridge can still be crossed by the Prius on less than a gallon..And again, and again.

The process is the goal.

Men heap together the mistakes of their lives, and create a monster they call Destiny.

England could drift closer to us?

Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

England could drift closer to us?

Yes, you can't argue with the science.

Fast is better than long

Yes, you can't argue with the science.

Science, and now the internet. And in the swamp so trrue^3

2013 Goals: 2500 miles / 2:45 marathon? / sub 2 800m / 4:30 mile / sub 16 5K / sub hour 10 miles

Give a man a fire and he'll be warm the rest of the night;
Set a man afire and he'll be warm the rest of his life.

xkcd, love that guy.  Fills that hole in my heart left by the departure of The Far Side.

2013 Goals: 18:49 5K •  1:25 HM • sub-3 Marathon • run lots of races

Current Status 5/13: challenging my Achilles issue -- building some base

Yesterday's was particularly appropriate.

England could drift closer to us?

Not if I can help it.

England will certainly drift...economically.

However anthropogenic global warming may cause sea level to rise providing the required offset and a further source of recursive irony as Prius production is shifted to developing economies burning peat and brown coal to make high efficiency batteries...

You all are missing the obvious way the formula will stay satisfied as Prius economy improves. The geometry of the universe will tend to hyperbolic, effectively raising the value of π.

... or, if sea level rises fast enough to broaden the English Channel even faster, here in the US we'll just redefine π to be 3.

*snerk* I love dimensional analysis!!!! especially when it becomes stoichiometry!

I think Texas already redefined pi to be 3!

My favorite:

I like running alone.
