Malmo disses RA.
Well, I guess then that I'm gonna stop logging my runs.
What I think Malmo fails to understand is that none of the RA fields are mandatory, and that those that exist are the result of users' requested needs. Better to listen to the user base than a theoretic application that serves a single person who likely logs on paper.
Why that post's OP feels he needs to reinvent the wheel is beyond me, but whatever. I'm enjoying a good beer after a good run and on a good day.
I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.

Prince of Fatness
I think that Malmo should get a Garmin. That way he can log his runs on RA with a couple of mouse clicks.
Semi-retired.
I guess Eric has made the big time now. Woohoo!
Runners run.
Do I understand that people who log shoe mileage instantly declare themselves to be joggers? The logic of this escapes me.
Doughboy
I can hammer a nail. Why does that mean I should design and build my own house?

Go Eric!

The Logic of Long Distance
Pretty cool. He deigns to participate, but maintains a respectable level of discourse. In all things, not too high, not too low.
Who knows if it is REALLY him (I have my doubts.)
Learnt a new word today, thanks
Me, too.

The King of Beasts
Miles Batty once ran into Jason Rexing on a 1.5 mile training run and they had a conversation about training that was so intense, it caused an earthquake. Miles convinced Rexing to run 30 miles a week and Rexing convinced Miles to do everything in trainers. They are now training together for the Comrades Marathon in South Africa and prepare by jump roping, doing lunges, and intense jujitsu sparring sessions.

His methodology and apparently understanding of genetics is flawed. He seems to be more focused on skin color than actual genetic differences. The actual percentage of difference in genetic code between whites and blacks is incredibly small....I believe a chimp has 98% sequence homology to a human. I'll buy that there is no correlation between skin color and running genetics (why would there be?) but that apparent fact completely misses the point.
It has been a decade since the completion of the Human Genome Project. The magic genes that this project was supposed to enable uncovering responsible for cancer and serious diseases have not emerged. What we HAVE uncovered is that our genome is much more complex than originally thought (rather than 1 gene = 1 protein, most are responsible for several proteins depending upon how they are regulated) and most of these diseases are caused by abberant interactions between many genes/gene products. This fact makes understanding how raw genetic code translates into physical differences even more nebulous.
A simplistic comparative look at genetic code does little to elucidate the inheritable underpinnings of a mechanical and metabolic process as complex as running.
2013 goals: Kick some arse. Moreso than 2012.

There are ethnic differences not only in disease susceptibility, but also in the polymorphisms associated with disease in one ethnic group versus another. If these differences exist, I am fairly sure that some genetic component is at play when it comes to athletic performance between ethnic groups (as well as between individuals). As Spaniel said, the human genome is way more complex than initially thought, and factors such as different variants of the same gene, expression differences in genes (due to genetic and epigenetic factors) will all have an influence, and that's before we get to the interactions between pathways in the body, environmental factors, developmental factors etc etc.
