Possibly new Women's 24 hour record - (Read 589 times)

    In case you hoseheads care

Some big numbers put up at North Coast 24 this last weekend ~ 2 possibly 3 people punched their US National 24 hour team tickets

Serge and Connie were already auto qualifiers from past National Championship Races.  Sabrina had run 137.82 as a qualification distance.  So Jon Olsen, Joe Fejes and Suzanna Bon are the new additions to the qualification list.

Sabrina - The little ass-kicker just broke the US Woman's Record.  I hope it can be ratified as the new American Record ... I heard there were some issues with chip lap counting.

Jon Olsen ~ 158.53 puts him squarely at number 2 of 3 on the open spot part of the list.  Number one is Mike Morton with 163.9 and number 3 is Joe Fejes with his 142.08.  Joe gets to be the scoreboard watcher in the club house and there are 2 more races with people gunning for his spot.

Connie ran 140+ miles again ~ Damn is she strong and consistent.  Suzanna is a great runner and fun person, I am happy to see her hit 133.97 ~ She is capable of more on the right day.  Carilyn Smith with 130.92 now occupies the bump spot for women.

Now I am making the assumption that both Jon and Joe are US citizens elgible to compete for Team USA (I really think they are)

2 race left in the qualification period:  3-Days at the Fair (May 12-13) and FANS24 (June 2-3)

Here is where I have the current list - By far this will be the deepest strongest teams (Please everyone stay healthy) the US will be putting forward.  3-140 mile women and at least 1-160 mile man + 3 -150 mile men.  It is an exciting time is US Utra-Distance running with great performances in both 100k and 24 hour racing.

The 2012 World Championship is September 8-9, 2012 in Katowice, Poland

Insanity. The old record stood for a long time too, right?

        Here is her report

I find her blog well written and one of the most entertaining.  She can write about wearing out her pants and still make it a great post.

        Its worth the read.

        Alive & Running

Loved this read.  What an amazing athlete!!

I'm stealing this idea from her blog: "Tip for success: If you need affirmation and there is no one to affirm you, listen to live music. Every time a song ends, there is applause."

            Its worth the read.

I love her blog.  For whatever demented reason people are out there beating their legs stupid and putting themselves through awful pain, she is out there because she really enjoys herself.  It feels like she is out there talking about playing like a kid at recess.  I started reading her blog two years ago, and I am always reminded that she is just a girl and she is out there celebrating life.  I get the impression (unlike in so many other runners' blogs) that she knows that she chooses to be out there.  It isn't a matter of life and death.  It's just running.  Of course she goes out there and kicks butt, too.

Results: 147.9 miles/24 hours. National Champion. American Record. Personal Record by 10.8 miles. Hair—messy but manageable.

Race summary: My face got a little sunburned while I was running outside, and I ate the refried beans out of 9 burritos after nightfall.

Race report: I love ultramarathons, and the 24-hour is my favorite event. It almost makes me drool: a Pavlovian response. I wanted to give North Coast my undivided attention, but school has been crazy. So I lost a lot of sleep, and I tightened my transition times within my run-library-run-library daily operating schedule to get everything done.

I completed my course work by Tuesday, went home on Wednesday, and drove out to Cleveland with my dad on Thursday: Father-Daughter Bonding Road Trip 2012.

Me: I’m sorry I didn’t pick a normal hobby, Dad.
            Dad: Ultrarunning is normal.
            Me: I meant like sewing.
            Dad: Ultrarunning is normal.

I like anyone who gives a "hair status" in their results.  Results which also happen to include a bunch of national and world records.  I don't remember Steve Ovett ever reporting his hair status.

Very nice blog.  Several quotables.  but you can all read, so I wont.

I always use my watch timer in these events (even though finish time is start time) because I’m not good at clock math after 100 miles. But sometimes, time stops because most watches won’t time for a full 24 hours. My last watch stopped at 20, probably because somebody at the Timex factory decided to draw the line there. You can do fitness for 20 hours, but then I’m cutting you off. You’ve had enough. And if you don’t expect this to happen, then when time stops, you’ll think something is wrong with Earth’s gravity. Try bearing that onus after 20 hours of running: The apocalypse is happening, and nobody else seems aware.

She had me at "clock math".

                      Runners run.

I didn't know about her until I raced her at Umstead two years ago.  All I know was that there was a really young girl way ahead of me when I saw her around mile 35.  At first I was confused and thought maybe she forgot to do this one out and back section.  Then I didn't worry about it.  Another runner and I were laughing about the young 20-somethings attempts to run long distance.  Inevitably they go out waaaaay too fast and end up dying out there.  They really have zero ability to pace themselves.  I knew I would end up passing her.  Oops.  She beat me by 1:24 (that's hours and minutes).  She has grown so much since then,  Now it would be double or triple that.

OK, just this one from another post

My roommate's boyfriend told me that I don't count as inspirational because inspiration incites change, and he would never want to do this

She is the kind of athlete that gives running a good name.  Down to earth, proud yet humble about achievements.

She's like 25 years old. Cripes, I thought ultras were primarily for us old people who can't run fast.

...... I’m not good at clock math after 100 miles...

I barely know my own name after 20 miles.  Thanks for sharing the site.
