Should I try to run today? (Read 631 times)

So I fucked up my ankle at Tom King, Doc said it's either tendinitis or a stress fracture, x-ray didn't show anything (doy). I was limping pretty bad saturday and Sunday, things are much better by now, though it's still not perfect and the area is still tender to the touch. I doesn't hurt to walk or use stairs anymore...

Thing is, I'm fucking going nuts. I dreamt all night that I was running. I want the real thing. Should I give it a shot? Or am I being too impatient?

Damn dude. I wan wondering why I was tracking you down on the list. That sucks

Why not use an elliptical to keep on moving and let it heal some more? I've not had a stress fracture but from waht others here have written its not something to screw with. I've done that with tendinitis a few years past. Worked well enough and kept me moving.

If that doesn't work for - rub some dirt on it and run some easy.

Try to run. If running hurts, stop.

You won't know until you try. Walking tells you nothing. Touching the spot tells you nothing.

MTA: I have at least 10 spots on my body that hurt when I touch them. So I don't touch them. They don't hurt when I run.

How about an easy 20 minute jog?

There is a long dark road ahead of me.

thing is, if it's really a stress fracture, do you really think it will have healed itself in what, 5 days?

I've had a stress fracture...this doesn't feel the same, I'm leaning towards tendinitis.

                   This is a good point.

Also, you'd rather it be a stress fracture than tendinitis.

                    still... better safe than sorry.

Although i did miss the fact that the x-ray didn't show anything in your first post... hmm. decisions.

I meant the tendinitis for the extra days fo recovery.

I like the 20 mile run idea and not touching the spot where it hurts. You people are good. I would say, take four or five NSAIDs prior to that 20 miler. That should really help

I thought that x-rays will not always reveal SF?

Anywho, I was once told by a doctor that I could do as I wished as long as it didn't hurt.

I would do a slow jog just to see how it feels. If it hurts, stop. Maybe see the doc again if you want to know for sure. With my stress fracture I kept running thinking hoping it was something else and finally one day it just hurt too fucking bad. Then I saw the doctor.

I did some yard work Sunday (cutting down a couple of trees with a blunt axe, will not try again), and my run Monday was painful, particularly my knee would not let me bend my leg, and I was sure I tweaked something bad, but after cutting the Monday run short, I seem to have healed.

Back of knee still sore to touch, but I am trying not to mess with it as Candice suggests. Not sure if this has any relevance to your case, but I'd say if you are having to alter your gait because of the pain, I'd not run. Otherwise, I'd try a very easy 1-2 miler and see if it feels better/worse the next day and go by that.

The fact that you have asked this question to us means that you have already made up your mind. Might as well get it over with.
