I haven't been doing any speed work. But it's time to check the fitness and see where I need to begin.
Heart & Sole 5k (Alma, MI) - 2/9 <19 minutes
Just got back after no running for 4-5 more weeks, who knows I lost count.
I wasn't going to enter any races because I'm broken, sick and slow. I wasn't going to enter any races because I'm cheap.

OK then, first race since November. Can I still break 8:00 pace? maybe if they had Krispie Kremes at the finish...
2/9 - Valentines Day 5K - Sub 24:00 after a week of the flu? let's find out
WG, Krispy Kreme Challenge, Raleigh, NC. 2.5 miles out, 12 donuts, 2.5 miles back. Goal: sub 42 mins, top 5 women (there are about 8000 people running this), don't puke.
FAIL! Not even close. 47:53, 33rd woman.
My not great time mainly came from some really bad running heading out. Turns out I'm even slower than I thought I was. I've started training so I can run a fast 8k in April, but the legs were just tired and slow today.
Eating was fine. I gagged a little. I would smush 3,4, or 5 donuts together and try to eat them fast, but chewing took a really long time. You have to show an empty box to a volunteer to pass through a chute to do the 2.5 back. I chipmunked some donuts and went through in 29:36.
On the way back I was fantastic. I passed jillions of women (sadly, most were in the non-competitive division). Not a single woman passed me. I was blowing by the field. The donuts didn't make me nauseous. They sure as hell didn't feel great, but it was better than I was worried it would be, plus I realized I was absolutely LIT on sugar. I'm doing 20 pixie stixs before my next race.
Lots of people in costumes and lots of fun.

If anyone was wondering what a good time is for this bit o' stunt running/ mainlining of glaze, the tops men's time was 31:31, women's was 37:42.
I read that WG and want to puke. Not from the racing but the donut stuff. Another race checked off the bucket list eh?
Ran the 5k with my son this morning. His first ever official race. The little shit ran a 21:45 and we passed several people in the last half mile. Not bad for turning 12 last week. One the most fun races I've ran in a while. And I guess I better get training since I'm gonna get pushed real soon. My fitness felt sub 20. I just need to get it done. Damn that was cool.
I want to know what your eating split was.

Sub 19, yes. 18:45
The course though - 3 miles, not 5k.
So unless I could have found a way to go 1/10 of a mile in 15 seconds, well then I probably missed the goal.

Woot! that kid's got some good genes!
Congratulations, WrigleyGirl! I am still impressed!

12:22. Yikes. That's bad. And not just because I put down 144 grams of fat in twelve and a half minutes (although that is bad too).
Some of the people around me were dunking their donuts in water. One guy just poured an entire cup of water right into the box of donuts. I suppose that would have helped them go down faster. I spent way too much time chewing. I was worried about putting any water in my stomach because I thought it would just turn into a big, heavy mess.
Double post. Ain't my fault!
Wrigley - dang girl! I barely handled two sugar cookies after a 5K. You're one tough donut!
C-R - and dang again..especially your son. I'm in training to be that fast.
Valentine's Day 5K. Goal sub 24 and finish time 22:28. Can't really define it as racing as I've lost so much training time.
Body was in warm up mode for the first 2 miles and then finally cracked sub 7 pace but then the race was over a mile later.
I'll take it. Race my way back in shape...at least that's the plan.

Big failure on the time goal.(But as I never looked at pace or splits, but just focused on the competitive race, I was happy.)
Ran kind of in a pack with my primary AG competitor and with lead female for most of the race. I pulled away to establish my AG win, and she came with me and outkicked me at the end.
But where I got really chicked was that three local women ran a 50k this morning and got home before me. WTH. Apparently my transitions after the race are really bad - the ones involving eating, some shopping, a brief stop at a park to show DW a bit of trails -- I guess those killed my overall time.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
