Not in Chicago
I'm drinking water like I'm never going to have another chance. I'm just messin with you Nads, it was a good event and I'm not all that concerned with the time. If I were in race shape or it weren't a blast furnace I'd have a reason to be pissed. Being mad about this is like the guy who golfs twice a year getting pissed because he sliced a drive.
That last 1/2 mile I was running in quicksand. I must have had 200 yards on a kid that I passed at mile 2ish, and he flew by me in the last 0.1. I was all swervy after finishing and had to sit down and was thankful for the watermelon slushee they gave out (a nice touch). Then I actually felt cold, which was a bit worrisome but after a few minutes I was OK. Then I thought some asshole was flicking water on the back of my legs until I realized my shorts were dripping.
And BadDawg was freakin' amazing. I don't know how he did that, then the "cool down" with Vassallo.
You suck. You should just quit. Jackass. Welcome back.
And Nads, if you were going to predict the time, you could have predicted the 18:59 so I could run it. Lesson learned for next time.
Look, in that weather, 18:59 could have killed you. I had your best interests in mind.

Wait, didn't you get a shoutout from Mrs Train?

Classic.

Will Crew for Beer
We need a Swampy event in Ohio or Indy dang it. Did Spaniel ever have his get together?
The 2nd Annual Spaniel Farms Beer Mile was last weekend. Plenty of beer, food, and no puking. Good times all around.
2013 Goal: HM < 1:45:00
Great FORR race reports.
+1, it sounds like it was a warm, but fun, race
And Nader has mad ESP skills
Current Goals: Run
Ran the first leg of a 3 x 1 mile relay this evening in order to make up a team; had only intended to support. Managed 5:46 for a 21 second PB which was likely a result of my having forgotten how to pace myself and it being too short to matter too much.
Do what you want, just how you like. Nobody has to know.

Race: TATUR's Reckless Redneck 1 mile Downhill

Goal: <6:30, not fall down
Result: 6:49, 1st AG, didn't fall down.
Comment: 104 degrees! Scary steep hill from top of Turkey Mountain (sic) down to Arkansas River. Maybe a more stupider race than the Monkey, certainly more dangerous.

Sounds like that race would be more fun to watch.
Result: 41:28
Mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand it shows I am in better shape than I thought I was. The downside is that my pacing was not so hot, which is to say way to slow. Basically just ended up running a 9K tempo with a pickup at the end. I was able to kick pretty good, but that ain't exactly a challenge after you jogged most of the race. Knew that I wanted a conservative start, but after going out first mile in 6:10, got a little scared and back off, even though I didn't feel to bad after that first mile.
Not to disappointed though, since I'd never raced this distance before and didn't exactly know what to expect or how much to try and bite off. Good learning experience.
Not sure how much time was left out there, but I imagine it was a significant amount since at no point in the race was I really in any discomfort. I'd imagine I'm good for at least a minute faster, possibly more.
Congratulations on beating your goal and looks like a PR, right? Now you have a new time to beat the next time.
MTA: Oh yeah, AP is not human.
HobbyJogger & HobbyRacer
Congrats on the PR -- But isn't it cool that you KNOW you can run it better still?
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Yea, its a PR!
My last 10K before it was like 4 years ago. I ran like a boss, splitting 22, 27.
MTA: I'm pretty sure a guy near me had that lovely experience today. Passed him about mile 2 on a downhill and you could hear his breathing from like a mile away at like 1:1 or faster, started to go up a hill and he surged HARD passed me, stayed ahead for like 100m constantly looking back. About 200m after passing him I looked back and he was probably 50m behind or more. I don't think he enjoyed his race.
6 hr run Gee, I don't know. 36 would thrill me, I think. 50K would be enough for me.

36 disappeared from hopes rapidly. 50K was always possible, but calf cramps at mile 29 stopped me. Wound up standing in trail unable to move, bending over waiting for calf to release. Feeling very stupid. After cyclist volunteer saw me and headed off to get help (with my shouts following after warning that I'd probably run on), it did release, and I did run on.
I heard later that I was infamous with the volunteers for having trouble, being unable to move, and then running and hiding in the woods so volunteers couldn't find me. Good, kept them jumping
In last 20 minutes I pushed and even ran the uphills to nab the 50K at the very end.
I actually like heat in general, and we had a lot of shade, so I didn't mind the weather.
Oh, and they gave me a shiny finisher's medal and a 1AG plaque.
Forgot to hit the animal crackers more than twice; gotta work on hitting the animal crackers, cause that's a real highlight for me.
