The course monitors seemed a little confused today.

It's not every day you get masters runners breaking 28 on the 10K, or young women doing it even faster.  They probably weren't prepared for the wind effects of that kind of speed going by.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

      4mi trail race tomorrow

      goal = 27:30

for just a 5sec improvement over my previous best

      but it's usually been short.

I've just picked the new start & finish by looking at a google satellite view rendered in the small RA map window of a previous year in my log, and bearing in mind the critical constraint that having registration and start and finish all at the same place makes DW (timer) happy. I see a place that looks about right and that has some brown and oblong things - I'm really hoping those are picnic tables. Or if they're bears, that they're (a) dead and (b) flat and (c) not smelly.

Turns out the optimal start is one with a parking spot right at it. So I used last year's course exactly, except a creek wasn't flowing across the beach (*), and I was therefore able to extend the course across another 50m of beach that we've never used before. The beach view is beautiful, well worth costing me my goal.

      27:39, and 1st.

      * They just used a bobcat to destroy the beaver dam upstream on that creek, within the past couple of days -- so shouldn't that make the water flow more than usual, not less?

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

In it for the long run..

Yay, Ilene!  Way to beat your goal!

            I'll have what BadDawg's having.

            Stu's 30k, 1:59:59.

            2:01:17.

There was no tie, BadDawg ran great--I'll let him tell his time, but through about 15 miles we were together, we had mostly executed the plan to that point and I said to him, "If you're feeling it, go ahead and take off." He was, and he did. I probably could have suffered a lot more on the last 5k and sneaked under 2 hours bit it might have taken a level of effort that would not have made a lot of sense 2 weeks before New Bedford. I decided to just maintain effort at that point and not go too deep into the well.

I'm happy with m y race. About a 2 minute negative split and my longest run by a lot since Monkey. Definitely the longest run at 6:30 pace I've done in over 2 years. I felt good at the end and finished strong with a little left in the tank. Perfect.

            Runners run.

I like that you can make those kinds of decisions on the fly.

By the way when you said "15 miles," my first thought was "This guy is coming dangerously close to racing that distance which shall not be named. Congrats on a very good race, Mikey.

Holy cow, by more than a minute!

                +1!

Chilly Half Marathon. Goal of beating my PB of 1:28:45 by 46 seconds successful! Actually beat it by 78, which i am happy about after a week of fun and sun in Mexico where I did a mini taper and some serious carbo loading (re beer, tequila, corn tortillas galore!)

                  1:27:28

                  102nd overall (of 2900)

                  21/215 AG

It was cold and windy and took a while to warm up. Thought maybe I'd never get in a groove but at 5k I was able to step on it a bit and carried on nwith pretty even splits all around 4:05/km from there on in.

*** Bonus was beating all my training buddies!

looks like some good racing this week!

I planned to do a 12 mi MP (6:50) run in the context of a HM today, but it was pretty windy so about 800m in I decided to push a bit and stay with a small pack which was moving at about 6:30 pace.  Cruised with them til mile 4, when the rolling hills kicked in and I pushed a downhill pickup with a couple of younger guys.  At this point, I realized I was racing, and pace dropped to 6:15 for a few miles.

Never felt like I was really pushing the pace to the point that I risked holding for the distance.  Dropped the rest of the pack around mile 7 and found myself alone for a while.

Nice long hill at mile 10, then into a park with paved trails.  Felt like I could have surged to catch another small pack of 5-6 guys about 20-30 seconds ahead, but wanted to leave something in the tank.  Then I realized I was tracking for sub 1:26.

Hit mile marker 13 just before 1:24:30...i had a legit shot at sub 1:25 with a strong kick!  But the last .1 mi turned out to be .2 mi. I finished at 1:25:27.  Big PR, and I'm not too worn.   Best part is this predicts a 2:59:50 marathon...

                      Wow! Nice work!

Note to self: augment taper plan to include beer, tequila and tortillas.

Some damned fine racing, roll Swamp!  Because of Mikey's outstanding plan and pacing, I was able to sneak in with 1:59:39.  Sooooooo much sexier than last year's 2:00:24.

Good day for a run, great company.

yeah, sounds like Daddy-O has the right idea (nice run btw).  the power of suggestion has me up and headed to the kitchen now!

                          nice run Dawg and Mikey!

That's for sure.  Looks like you ended up recovering just fine from your workouts (I think you were having issue with that?).  Awesome run.

Closing the last 4.5 miles at ~10k pace... damn, son!

Very impressive week. Hoping Wrigs at least  had a shot of Scope to celebrate.
