Fast is better than long

Missed goal, but he still had a great race on a course that is not easy. I got to see him twice out there, and both times he looked fast and strong. Also, he contributed some damn good homebrew to the post race festivities. I appreciated it. It was a great day, and it was nice getting to meet up with a bunch of RA'ers (it is always great to see flatfooter, HoosierDaddy, and Perfesser), including putting down lots of post race beer with Pauly and joldfather.

    You are so wishy-washy Wink

I agree, it was a truly solid performance and he was turned inside out at the finish. A+ on the home brew. lots? I don't recall that, oh wait, that makes sense it probably was lots.

    2013 Goals: 2500 miles / 2:45 marathon? / sub 2 800m / 4:30 mile / sub 16 5K / sub hour 10 miles

    What in the Jehu?

No wishy-washyness here! I'm not saying he should get the 8-ball, I just want to point out that he did a great job and set a tough goal for himself. No sandbagging from ff.

        Impressive efforts from all.  Approve

I can't think of many race mornings where I'm all Hip Hip Horray let's race today...more like, really today? I'm not ready yet.  But it's the if I don't do it, then I won't know how I finish.  And then I have this group that has really been a pick me up and get your a$$ out of bed influence as I have some goal posted so I better get a move on.

the no whiners allowed attitude of, "F' it, I'm just going to run hard" attitude makes my day Big grin

Yes, many impressive efforts.  Your 1:27 was out of the park, though. Congratulations.

+1. Hard to single anyone out. Great racing this week. As usual.

MTA: actually 18th out of 48 finishers, OK. But there were people there who beat me by an hour that I handily kick their ass in a road marathon. How do I turn myself into a trail runner by June 23rd?

Hills, trails, and taper.  I ran a faster pace during the 50 miler last weekend than I did for most of my training runs on the same course.  Without those 3 however, I probably would have ran an hour slower...

              2013 Goals:
              Run  trails.

Bhearn, I would really, really put some crazy work into downhill running. It killed me early (after mile 35 I had to walk down any descent however gradual), and I found out that it is the great divider at WSER. With 22,000 ft of downhill, and much of it coming very early with very steep descents, if you don't practice bashing the quads, it will be a long crapola day.

Beer is always good, but even better when enjoyed with friends after a tough race.  The Advil I took on Sun morning was for more than just my aching legs ;-)

I hear you. It's one reason I ran this race. However, in this race, I *did* run all the downhills -- the guys who beat me by an hour ran more uphills than I did.

Can you run sub-24 at WS walking all the uphills?

"Way to make Borat look overdressed"

I definitely think so. The climbs that you encounter are not rollers. They are significant. You won't even find the winners running out of the first canyon up to Devil's Thumb. It is the worst climb I have done in any race. You also will be starting the race by climbing up from Squaw Valley straight up a ski slope to the highest point you will be for the race. You want to take that easy. No point in blowing the race in the first seven miles.

MTA: This is all the first half. The second half is easy-peasy and very runnable. The problem is getting to the second half in the best possible shape so you can put down some great miles.

Congrats Willie, well deserved! You and Pauly have both had an incredible year with improvements. Can I have some of whatever you are drinking? Smile

I'd give my eye tooth to run as fast as that chic.

You all prized me with an Eight ball already, and I got it in my bag for good luck.   Don - was the one who put the kabosh on any  thoughts of sandbagging New Prague by sending a note of  "Come on Willie, you know you can run this..."   I knew he was right and out on the course, I thought a few times.  "Don you see this what I'm doing here?"   Thanks for the kick in the pants and did me good mentally for Gma's up ahead.

I'd like to hot potato the Eight ball to AMcNeice!  He showed us the money, a photo of stellar form and his wife PR to make it a Grand Slam day.
