I like xkcd. This one is indeed funny and the math works well.
And it leads to a fascinating consequence. With less than a gallon of gas in the Prius, it can fuel its journey over a hypothetical (and extensible) bridge across the English Channel. As the Prius economy is improved, England drifts out to sea, but the improved economy means that the stretched bridge can still be crossed by the Prius on less than a gallon..And again, and again.
The process is the goal.

However anthropogenic global warming may cause sea level to rise providing the required offset and a further source of recursive irony as Prius production is shifted to developing economies burning peat and brown coal to make high efficiency batteries...

You all are missing the obvious way the formula will stay satisfied as Prius economy improves. The geometry of the universe will tend to hyperbolic, effectively raising the value of π.
... or, if sea level rises fast enough to broaden the English Channel even faster, here in the US we'll just redefine π to be 3.
