Dude, nice.

Impressive closing split Drew. Also, looks like your 4mi, 10K, and 20K PRs are yours for the taking.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
36:14. 78 degrees and humid at 7:30 am. Oh, and I had to stop for a poo. MTA - 4th OA, 1st AG.

Strong performance in 78F. I hear that the heat can affect people.

Semi-retired.

+1 on all.
You suck. You should just quit. Jackass. Welcome back.
Missed it by that much!
On the other hand, 4OA, PR, and a long way ahead of the second place geezer: I'll take it.

Awesome, Over-the-Hill!
Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

Idiot
Thanks, all. I felt strong and controlled the whole way through. The rolling hills were no problem, and I finished right as the sun was peeking through the cloud cover so I avoided the heat.
It was a great frickin' day. (and my first race in flats and I can say I'm sore today. shit)
Yes, I do "run in this." So should you. The weather is never as bad as it seems from behind your office or car window.
Bit of a catalogue of nightmares during the race on Saturday. Things actually started to go wrong a lot earlier with four of our top runners being unavailable or getting ill (one of them has TB!). Then our first leg runner got elbowed in the stomach and winded so he ran about 40s slower than expected (coming in in 18th position having been in top three until the incident). That was us out of the running pretty much so we lost a lot of the desire needed to push yourself as hard as is needed in such a competitive race.
So by the time I got to run (leg 8) we were in 14th place and a good few minutes behind the leaders. I made up one place within the first 800m but then had no-one to chase or be chased by for the remaining 2.5M. Add in the cough I'd picked up mid-week which made it feel I couldn't breathe in the heat and my race was pretty much written off. I ran 15.34 for the hilly 3M leg and we finished 11th overall. Disappointing but a really exciting race to watch; the silver/bronze was decided by a sprint finish on the uphill 200m finishing straight after four hours (~50M) of racing and even the winner was only 20s ahead.
Turns out the cough/sore throat was a little bit more sinister than I thought: I went out for the day yesterday but had to come home early and had D+V on the train home. I've been in bed all today.

Gives new meaning to "running with a rough crowd". Reminds me of a running buddy who said "I didn't realize a knife is required equipment" when he raced on an indoor track for the first time. All's fair in love, war and racing.
Covering three hilly miles in 15:34 when you're not feeling great aint too shabby in my book.

Great job everyone!

3:14:20, 7th OA woman. Held it together better than some of the other "elite" (bahaha) women, which was unfortunate for them but makes me feel a little bit better about life in general.
Heat sucks.
You read the rest of the sob story elsewhere.
How do you keep your feet on the ground, when you know you were born to fly?

Heh. Git'r'done, Drew! mgerwn: Sunday, April 10th EcoHusky 5000 (5K) University of CT (Storrs, CT) Goals: A) Beat my son, B) Break 23 mins Third annual competition between me and the boy, and this year I may actually have a shot. My times are now down near where he has run the past two years, and I've been doing more hill training and racing in the past few months than I had before (the course is not flat). Add in desperation born from the fact that he graduates in less than a month, making this my last chance to beat him on his home turf, and I like my chances. Winner gets dinner and a giant bucket ice cream sundae from the locally famous campus Dairy Bar, courtesy of the loser.

Pfft. Big fat fail on both - 24:50, the kid beat me by 40 seconds, barely broke a sweat. Hills suck. 5ks are stupid. But ice cream is good.

A minute and a half short on a 50-miler. That's kind of like a fraction of a second on a normal race, isn't it?
