So it looks like this local 5k - Cookeville Jaycees 5k.  3/20/10

Since someone else is paying my entry...goal... low 18ish and the win.

sidegoal: watch friend Dallas Smith obtain yet another state record for 69 yr old male.  last week was half record at TK.

sidegoal 2: run course before race and twice after race.  Lap atleast 10 people.  - SEP kind of thing to do.

sidegoal 3.  stay in 2nd as long as possible for the first 2.5 miles.

Ed look for me on your cool down. Is jess coming we can head to Johns place afterwards.

      • Miles meticulously marked with a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3.
      • Water and/or delicious Bud Light at 5,10, and 15 miles.
      • Accurate timing if you own a good watch (you will be timing yourself !).
      • Free shuttle between the Circle and the start, if you have a generous family member or friend (transportation along the point-to-point course is your problem !).
      • Feel free to jump in or out at any distance. If you would like to cheat that’s O.K. too! There are no “chips”, though we may go by a cow farm, no awards, no entry fee, no numbers, no t-shirts, no charities, no USATF, and no race directors to bitch to!
      • There are plenty of hills, beautiful scenery, really.  A lot of insults provided by the friendly (?) water/beer stop volunteers, (who will also be entertaining you with choice selections from the Grateful Dead), yes we will have the boom box outside this year, post-run libations at the Circle provided by the WCRC and the AS.

Shamrock Shuffle 8k.  Chicago  Goal: Sub-36

World's largest 8k, with 36,000 people.  It is so crowded that it is impossible to really go out fast in the first mile, just because it is so packed.  This has worked out well for me in the past though, because I have a tendency to go out way too fast.

I did this last year and it was actually pretty fun.  I don't know, maybe 75 people or so on a semi-organized training run with cheeseburgers and beer after.  Even free pint glasses and stuff laying around on a table at the end.  Can't do it this year because of home/kids/scheduling but would like to have.

mr train you are a pain, your words - they make me go insane

How are both of these things possible?  Is it up a mountain or are you entering as a woman?

Hey, wait, is this the race thread?  WTF am I doing in here?

2nd Annual Hedgehog Mountain Fat Ass 50k on the 20th in Freeport Maine.

I expect I'll run 2 loops of the course for around 21 miles. If my wife doesn't go, then I might consider running the full 50k, but with everything else I need to get done this weekend I'm not so sure I'll have time.

Sorry Blaine...here's my WTF moment of the day.  You're actually posting on the race thread about a 'race' that you don't intend to finish?  WTF man.

Time for the relaunch.  Stay tuned....

I wasn't there last year.  I ran the Bataan Death March.  Bhearn, you are in for something amazing.  I've done a lot of different marathons, and without a doubt I consider this one to be the best.  Good organization and a beautiful, tough run.  What stands out though, is getting to shake hands with the survivors.  What they went through was absolutely horrific.  I've never done a race that was bigger than me.  It made the running less painful.

I'd love to do this one again.  Maybe in the "heavy" division.  Running (or trying to run) a marathon with a 35 lb pack might be interesting.  Not to mention the looks you would get when training...

Rodes City Run 10k - 43:02.  Hip didn't hurt as much running at a 7-ish pace vs a 9-10 min jog pace.

Had no kick at the end.

“I used to be a runner. Uh-huh. Not a marathoner. A runner. Marathons are bullshit. They’re all hype. Some official picks a random day, and rain or cold, you’re out there pounding the pavement alongside 50,000 other dumbfucks. No. There’s some things it’s better to do all by yourself.” Augustus Hill, Oz

Well, well, well.  Looks like you're on your way to sealing the sub-3:30 25 deal this year.

If we don’t try we’ll never know. At least I can find out how good I can be.  I can have an answer at the end of the days, and have a hell of a good time with the process. -Desi Davila
