Guess which airport (Read 329 times)

Well they let my Dad's Phoenix flight leave.

Appleton, WI cancelled all outbound flights - But still list his inbound flight as "Green"

We are under a blizzard warning for 15 inches of snow - Winds (Later today) are 25-30 MPH with gusts > 50 MPH

So ... where will I be driving to tomorrow to get him?  Milwaukee? Chicago?  Minneapolis? Other?

I am hoping I am wrong

Let it snow - let it snow - let it snow.

          i guess Chicago

I'm going to go with this since you cant fly directly from Phoenix to Appleton and statistically he is probably connecting out of ORD.

            i guess Chicago

They are predicting 50 mph winds in Chicago too. Not much snow though. ORD is usually a cluster so even if they do reroute there chances are his flight will be rerouted again.

Allegiant Air flys direct from Mesa to Appleton Thursdays and Sundays.

We do not have much for wind yet - Just 10-12 inches of really wet snow ... maybe still Appleton

Ah you said Phoenix, not Mesa.    That is cheating.

                  Eye of Sauron

Allegiant is a weird little airline that does not fly to most typical big city airports, but will fly to "nearby" airports.  Their definition of "nearby" can be interesting, though.  For example, they don't fly to Seattle (Sea-Tac).  Instead, they fly to Bellingham.  Which is two hours north.  (and, practically speaking if you live here, still kind of cheaper to fly out of because flights are cheaper and parking is sooo much cheaper that it covers the gas costs to/from).

AND.... I dunno that Allegiant will stick you on another airline's flight that goes when their flights don't.

                    SO....

If he stays with Allegiant, my bet is that it gets canceled outright.  If there's space available on a routing to nearby (like MKE), then maybe they will do that.  But they don't have a lot of flights, and they don't do a lot of connecting things... most stuff is people going from A to B.

If he books something else, then perhaps ORD if everything else is shut down.  But he's likely to book US Air because they have a giant Phoenix presence, and that automatically means a hop through one of their east coast hubs before repointing to something near you.  American and United will have a few direct flights to ORD because that's their hub.  Then there's Southwest, where they'd have all kinds of combos... and it'll really depend on what's open.  The risk with US Air and Southwest is the likelihood of getting stuck somewhere in between.  Same with Delta... they don't fly straight to ORD, so he'd hop through Salt Lake City or Cincinnati (or sometimes, eeek, all the way through atlanta).

Oh, and if it is Southwest and Chicago is as close as possible, it'll be Midway and not ORD.

Newark is a fun joke answer... with a bit of truth.  US Air or United... if their direct flights are all sold out... could try to route him through there. And if he gets there and everything closes, well... welcome to New Jersey.
