Beerless year (Read 558 times)

DoppleBock

    Depends - In my 20s ...

Monday was indoor hard court A league volleyball night - At Tanners sports bar (Usually the 6 of us shared a pitcher or 2)

Tuesday was bowling night at the Super Bowl (1 beer frame in each of 3 games)

Thursday was dart league night -traveling (usually 3 to a lot on the 3 hours)

Fridays are made for friends / drinking (always found some excuse to get together with friends)

Saturdays - Depends on what you were doing (Badger games, boating, camping, get togethers with friends, snowmobiling ~ hey you gotta warm up somewhere etc)

Sundays - Usually not unless Saturday reasons.

Wednesday ~ I usually did not drink ... unless a friend called me up and needed someone to go out with (More a true friend support than looking to drink)

Having always struggled with weight - I may not drink at all on these opportunities, but the opportunities were plentiful.  My tradition is usually to not drink at least 1 month a year (February is the shortest month) and has grown to usually Jan - Apr because of the desire to de-fat.

So the French or the Italians have a glass or 2 of wine almost every day ... I think it is a lot less about the frequency, but the dependancy, volume and the intent.  I do not think I am actually dependent ~ But I do have bad intent.

I have tried to become a connoisseur like many of my RA friends ~ But I will always remain a consumer.

To be fair - Now our lives include only the above activities on weekends.

For me even drinking alcohol 1 time per week (any amount) has an impact of my training.  It seems to be like sludge.  Although I like to drink ~ It is not important to me as I like to do a lot of things.  I do not have to give anything up to not drink.  Heck I would be the star of the group at the beer festival (DD)

All I knew growing up is that if I went to MO or WI, I could get into a bar. MO was closer. But still, everyday? WTF? I think they have a word for that.

I think my frustration is with weight and calorie consumption ~ Part of this is Alcohol, but is unfair to give booze all the credit.

Sadly - I think I have to start tracking calories again.

I do believe alcohol has no place in serious training ~ But has a place in the trainig that we all do, if we choose.

I do not train so I can drink or eat ~ I train / run because I want to.

Not sure about 2013 ~ Maybe I will never have to choose as the world might end shortly after Monkey ... that would seem a fitting end.

Less alcohol = no sludgey feeling, better training, easier weight control, long term health for children's sake (think of the children!), save money...etc. etc.

there is no time like the present to start living better!  Smile

a few beers after Monkey is still fine.  Moderation in all things   Cool

You use strange words ~ Mode-ration ... is that a math term? or a foreign language?

I was almost there again (End of Aug ~ 192) ... it's like I am afraid of success.

                Drink red wine.  Consider

                • A bottle of red wine has the same total alcohol content as the typical 6 pack of 12 oz. beers, but less calories, on average 600 vs. 900 respectively.
                • Europeans have gone to great lengths to fund medical studies proving that red wine is good for you, to justify their 1-2 glass/day habits.
                • A bottle of drinkable red wine is about the same price as a 6 pack of drinkable bottled beer ($6-$8).
                • You can impress your friends with your increased level of sophistication during those social drinking occasions.

Trader Joe's has a great selection of private label California reds in the $6-$8 range.   Don't bother with the $2.99 stuff or any red less than 13% ABV.

                2013 H1:  7 hours/week base.  Q3: Train for goal race.  Q4:  Goal Race.

I'm trying to picture DB deftly maneuvering his Prius into the TJ's parking lot, grabbing his hemp shopping bags off the passenger seat and sauntering knowingly toward the private-label red wine section, carefully unkempt with his ironic eyeglasses, layers of clothing and one earbud from his iPhone 5 in while the other dangles "carelessly" down the front of his shirt.

                  Somehow I'm struggling with it.

You're really picturing him holding the crystal stemware up to the light to admire the colour of his vintage with his baby finger daintily dangling in space, aren't you?

                    Hawt and sexy

I don't think they sell wine in WI.

                      I'm touching your pants.

                            Was it all a dream?

A couple marathons over the past few years that I felt like I was in shape to PR and the weather cooperated... For Chicago 2009, I gave up drinking for ~3months beforehand.  End result - 2:32.  For Berlin training this year, I drank like I lived in WI.  End result - 2:26.

So basically, drinking = PRs (since obviously all other factors remained equal).  DB, don't do anything crazy that could jeopardize your running in 2013! Wink

I'm in the business of misery...

Upon further review - This has been deemed foolish - Beerless year, what was I thinking.

I have to trust Ben on this one.

Maybe I need to re-institute the "You cannot eat until you run" rule instead.  Basically you get your ass out of bed and run every day or you get really hungry.
