Nice job on the pacing! I relied really heavily on the pacer yesterday, you guys who give up your race to help us are totally awesome. Thank you!

      Thanks.  Blush

I don't think of it as giving anything up.  I am pretty new to the sport, and my first pacer "gig" was this race last year.  It's really rewarding to help people hit their goals.  At this pace, I am also dealing with a lot of first time runners at the HM distance, so I get to show them the ropes, so to speak.

I had a woman run with me doing her second HM.  Her first was 20 years ago, when she was 19.  Got married, had a family, raised kids, and then started running again.  Her first one was a 2:06 20 years ago.  She beat me by about 15 seconds today when I "made her" get in front of me in the last 0.2 miles.  There is a brutal hill from 12.6 to 13 on this course, too.

She was so happy and so excited.  That is why I do it.

                MTA: But I saw!

                  Race quotes anyone?

At one point yesterday, Hasher Rick is stressed to the max, head down, totally focused.  All three races are still in progress.  At this moment some dude - who had been raving to me about Chi Running - comes over and asks Rick if he has the results.  With looking up: You didn't win.

That's a good one; I'll have to remember that.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Feedback from runners is cool, too.  These were comments on the race page (shamelessly tooting my own horn here...)

"A huge thank you to all the volunteers! A special thank you to the 2:05 pacer for the half....I didnt finish right with you but I was not too far behind!"

"I was with the 2:05 pacer for a while too. he was a great motivator!"

"Every time I felt like giving up (especially up those hills towards the finish) I would look up and see Mike's sign and find my inner strength to keep going!! "

"Hi! Do u remember me? I found u around mile 8 and ran with u for 2 miles. Thanks for keeping me going. I lost sight of u after one of the water stops. I ended up finishing 2.06.12 which is a pr for me by 23 sec!"

"Great Job Mike I am in awe of all the pacers thank you for motivating so many Smile"

                        Cool

If you wonder why I like pacing...  This is why!

                            Too late!

Man this week was a toughie...it was a real toss up between Strings and Mandy, but in the end I gotta go with Mandy. Her consistent improvement is huge and totally inspiring. Strings- dude...congrats on breakin' 20. That's huge. I hope to be there soon.

                            Keep it up, you two!

                            Goals?

Thanks Skootr :-) Drink n Run - I posted on the race Facebook page to say thanks to our pacer. I'm glad you guys read it. Strings - I'll be chasing that 5k time of yours. Awesome work.
