Milktruck say relentless
MTA: Ilene, although we are on totally seperate continental coasts, I have no doubt that if we were to race a 5k race together, you would thouroughly kick our collective asses. I have no room to talk trash.
Nonsense, i know you are sandbagging
Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

First Day 5k PR
6:16-18, 12:22-24, 19:12.
SELFISH, like you.
BigBig PR for me. 37:17 (unofficial)
MTA: Official 37:17.12, 6th place, 2nd AG.
Out and back course with cross headwind heading out and a cross tail wind heading back. 5K Splits were round about 19:03 & 18:14. That's probably not ideal. Who cares. It's a 55 second PR and tells me my fitness is probably better than I hoped.
It felt great to run well today!

Wow! Congrats, X!
Had a better day than we expected (me and little Q). We did end up sandbagging our goal, but mostly in the 3rd mile. That, and we didn't really have a good idea how fast we should go. It's been a year since Q has raced or even run hard. Our first 2 miles: 8:52 and 8:44. Third mile 8:06 and kicked to the finish. 26:16 Finish time.
I think his first 2 miles were on par with doing a tempo run. But, halfway through the 3rd mile, could tell he had entered racing mode and got that "damn, this is really tough" feeling you get in a 5k.

Yeah, way to go Nads! Xpher too!
Me? I checked in a 19:38. Beat John (22:02).
Did not feel good in the warm-up run; actually thought I might DNS because my ankle felt like crap. But beat it into submission. And when the gun went off, did my thing. 5:56, 12:20, 19:38. So, went out too fast, but at least beat the two Tri guys in front of me.
A training partner was recovering from a cold and didn't race so much as: "I found a good level of discomfort and just kept with that." Yep, that sounds like a 5K plan.
BTW: my race was $10. Chip timed. Got a free flashy-light and a head-warmer out of it. Pretty damn hard to beat that.
Also the race was won by a local chic! (who also raced in the Olympic trials this year ). Anyway, always nice to see that.
2013 Goals: 18:49 5K • 1:25 HM • sub-3 Marathon • run lots of races

Nice!
Runners run.
And when the gun went off, did my thing. 5:56

Exactly. It's just a matter of time before everything is lined up and those 5:56 miles stick.

Drove down by myself. Mike, Reno, Jason and Helen took right off, and I ran the whole way with Gary (w/a crowd of folks just going to the halfway point.) Mike apparently went out the front, but didn't know the course and probably wound up doing around 30 miles w/a trip through route 9 which doesn't strike me as exciting. Gary wasn't feeling it today so we ran a 3:48 or so I think. What amazes me is that I felt very comfortable the entire way despite the whole lack of weekly mileage for the past few months. Even the extra mile or so to get to the car and change and head back to meet everybody at starbucks around mile 26. Was a bit tight after the couple hour drive back.
The tragedy on the day was getting some specialty sam adams brews on the way home, and promptly dropping them on the pavement right outside the store. Thankfully, they replaced 'em for me. So with dinner I got to drink some "Merry Mischief" gingerbread stout (batch #1!) which was quite tasty.

I'll race the 5K that I'm working on New Year's Day if we have enough volunteers for me to race. I am told it is hilly. I'll say 18:20.
Darn it, Ilene, I did my part to help you pick up another 8-ball. I didn't race - busy working it, & cheering.
But it seems like you & X both let me down in this effort. X blew out nearly a 1min PR, it looks like (congratulations!), and apparently you failed to find a requisite race. I'm disappointed in the lack of cooperation you guys are giving me. Beatings will continue until training improves.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
Alive & Running
1:31:30. Course was short by about 0.25 mile. I failed at being "spot on" for pacing and failed at not vomiting. I had to yak about 10 mins before the race, but was fine after that.
Technically mikeymike was the only one who raced LAST week, so he gets an by default, but I know he would scoff at that!
Of the New Year's Day runners, we have a clear winner, xhristopher ran an awesome PR and got hardware as well! So he definitely gets the coveted imaginary fucking cartoon and is the current 2013 leader!
Honorable mention has to go to stadjak for his impressive whomping of his friend, and to Quint for beating his goal and racing with little Q. Don S. also had a fine race despite yakking beforehand.
Thanks! As always, meeting & exceeding a goal is reward enough.
