We like to think of temp + dew point So 45F wtih 70% humidity = dew point of ~ 32 45+32 = 77 When the temp + dew point is in that > 100 range start to think about it > 120 - Then it time to adjust goals 65 + 90% humidity = 59 dew point 65+59 = 124 - that can suck That is just our rule of thumb. Do 70F with 30% humidity ~ 21 dew point 70+21 = 91 ... not bad.

Yes DB was right, Sunday was perfect, 40 degs and 85% humidity, cloudy and no rain
Of course Grandmas typical marathon weather fits well into this equation
66F - 99% humifity = 65 dew point
66+65 = 131 = major suckage
This weekend Temps between 50-55 @ 80% humidity = 40-44 dew point or 90-99 on the suckage index - Below 100 ~ no action required.

2013 Goals ~ Mar < 3:00, 5M < 29, 10k < 35
66F - 99% humifity = 65 dew point 66+65 = 131 = major suckage
DB, your Wisconsin is showing!

Maybe or just my poor typing skills and grammer / spelling ... Not sure if it is fair to burden everyone in WI for my abilities.
I am sure I can find many people in TN with less ability than you.

No! That 65 degrees with humidity is major suckage! We call that a nice day 'round here!
Ok - I get it
But When you get above 120 on the index it will impact perfromance
85F with 50% humidity = 42
85+42 = 127
65F with 90% Humidity = 59
65+59 = 128
I am not sure how many morning races are 85F @ 7:30am
But on the DB suckage index - It's the combined score
85F with 80% humidity = 68
85+68 = 153
When we hit > 150 I pretty much will not race
I did a night race last summer
92F with 70% = 64
92+64 = 156 - I will never do that again.
But if its 80F and 40% humidity = 32
80+32 = Stop your bitching.
So the race index scoring of actual temp + dew point =
< 100 = Ideal
100-120 = Less than ideal but go for it
> 120 < 150 = Start adjusting your goals, but still race hard
> 150 Drink beer
So the race index scoring of actual temp + dew point = < 100 = Ideal 100-120 = Less than ideal but go for it > 120 < 150 = Start adjusting your goals, but still race hard > 150 Drink beer
Makes good sense to me -- ran an 8k this summer at 75 degrees with dewpoint of 69 and it was definitely not ideal conditions, but certainly better than most days around here.
My rule of thumb regarding humidity is once you are below 70 degrees don't worry about it.
Temperature does not matter.
Humidity does not matter.
Only dew point matters.
Dur.
I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.

JUST DEW IT.

So 70F with 100% humidity = Dew point of 70 But has a combined score of 140
90F with a 78% humidity = Dew Point of 70 But has a combined score of 160
150F with 46% Humidity = Dew Point of 69 But has a combined score of 219
300F with 22% Humidity = Dew Point of 66 But has a combined score of 366
Of course Trent would rather be slow roasted in a dew point of 66
Temperature does not matter. Humidity does not matter. Only dew point matters. Dur.

Will there be streaking while intoxicated at Monkey? or will the dew point be too low?

I agree that not all scores work perfectly
70F + 48% Humidity = 34 Dew Point
34 + 70 = 104
52F with 100% Humidity = 52 Dew Point
52+52 = 104
With 100% Humidity you pretty much know it is raining ... add 15 MPH winds and in a 50 mile race I am worried about hypothermia ... not so much if it were 70F with 48% humidity.
I really hate cold hands - I am wearing gloves and packing wool gloves for the aide station @ 36.7 miles in case I can't feel my hands.
Temp are suppose to increase to a 53 then hold steady, after noon they will decline again, but the wind is suppose to pick up all day. Luckily we are running in the woods ... although there will be no leaves on the trees as they will all be down covering the rocks and roots. 2+ inches of rain between now and then ... I am going to be a muddly, bloody (Falling) messy boy by the finish.
It will be a blast!
