Damn you, Nike! (Read 366 times)

So do you remember in like 2009 ish when the Nike Lunaracer was all the rage? They're still around I guess but the hype has worn off.

I remember saying then that they would be the PERFECT marathon racer if they got rid of that stiff, plastic upper and but a soft, mesh upper on it. In fact I said it on this here message board:

Same here, one shoe was a bloody mess at the end of the 2009 Bay State Marathon.  Narrow and the upper was a little too stiff/did not stretch at all.  If they put a regular mesh upper on that thing it would be the ultimate marathon racer, imo.

Well guess what? Those fucckers at Nike went and put a soft, mesh upper on the Lunaracer sole!

    The Nike Lunar Montreal:

Problem is, they never released it through their running specialty channel, it went straight to the fashion channel and nobody noticed it so they discontinued it last spring. It's a long story but I recently discovered that this shoe existed, hunted them down on the interwebs and bought a pair from some weird shoe retailer I'd never heard of called "6pm.com" (for $49.95!) and just took them for a 10 mile test drive.

Holy shit! And WTF Nike?? You make the best shoe ever and you discontinue it before anyone knows about it?? I'm half contemplating buying another pair and sticking them in the closet for the next 6 months. 6pm.com is now out of my size and the $49.95 deal but there are still a few places out there that have them.

They are not really similar. Lunarfly is a 9.9 oz, fairly cushy trainer, this thingy is a 6.3 oz "racer". If you love the lunarflys then why not get another pair?

Free's are for me. Don't need no sticking cushioning.

I read in Born to Run that Nike does it on purpose to get people to stock up on their BFF shoes, knowing they'll be gone. Everything in that book is 100% accurate.
