I want to be a snowbird when I grow up.
Happy Easter
I'm in north Jersey and while there occasionally are storms that hit south harder, I can't remember a year when almost every storm has. Until now. They are calling for 12 - 18 inches tomorrow. Damn.
have you seen this hat?
I am waiting for some good pics of the many feet of snow in the Northeast. I have seen nary any, and I am beginning to think the whole thing is made up.
Here in the Northeast we've gone 3 weeks without a snowstorm. It's been lovely. The roads are bare pavement and the ponds are good for skating. I can even see some grass in my side yard.
I've heard rumors that the Mid Atlantic states got some snow, but I'm not sure.
Skol Vikings!
We could have said the same thing here in Michigan, but our payback is coming today. I think Nashville has gotten more snow this year than we have.
That's the smart thing to do because running in the Florida summer heat can be hazardous. Race season down here doesn't start until October and is finished in April. I grew up in Connecticut and all of these snow pictures make me miss home but I don't miss the cold.

so tomorrow I'm going to try to get a long run in on the beach.
That gym membership I signed up for in Dec was a very good move. Never did do much tm running before this, but it's working out quite well. 18" last storm, forecast calls for 12"- 20" tonight into tomorrow.
Aaack!
That thread would only have one post.
Cold, snow, wind three days of sunshine until Memorial Day
Feel free to pass it along to Lank.
Just to keep this in perspective for you pansies:
THIS is snow
Average is 240-300 inches depending on the location, we had up to 360 one year I was there I believe.
It was "fun" running in this 4 years, typically we had some on the ground as track season ended. I got faster when I mostly quit running in the winter and nordic skiied hard on the insane hills 2-3 hrs/day.
I could bust out the skis here in Indy for once but it would take longer to wax them than it's worth.
And while you have it you might as well do something with it.

People keep telling me that. I wanna try it. It looks super fun. I only downhill...and not very well. I have this whole fear of death thing.
The fear of death part is less important with nordic skiing. Unless you forget going down a hill that you had no metal edges on your skis so you are not going to turn the same way.
Nordic skiing is like swimming, if you approach it like running you will get a good workout but you will be slow and you will suck. Not to say you won't still have fun. For running cross-training, I highly recommend skate-style vs classic (the skis are different). Don't do the waxless crap, get regular wax skis from a good shop (they must be matched to your weight) and learn how to wax. Waxless is for people who go out and walk around on the snow.
Find someone who knows what they are doing and get them to help you with your technique. It is a great workout and because there is no impact you can get 2-3 hours/day once your upper body is conditioned for the same recovery of an hour of running.
Stay off the technical trails until you have your technique down. Skiiing uphill is a bitch if you don't know how to do it properly, and downhills will be scary if the hill is beyond your ability to handle. As I mentioned, people who come from a downhill background forget they don't have edges to cut and turn (you have to step-turn) and also that their heel is not attached to the ski.
