So Tea Olive beat me to it by posting in the GSP asking if she should taper for the Monkey marathon by racing a 10k or racing a half marathon.

So I am coming to you boobs, I just realized the Monkey is less than 2 weeks away and I haven't run any 20 milers this training cycle!   So, do you think if I run 20 miles this Saturday and 20 miles again on Tuesday that I will get an adequate training effect, or should I give up now?

I have 3 runs over 15 miles in the last 2 years and nothing longer than that this training cycle so I can't figure out what all the fuss is about wrt to this "hilly marathon on Nov 18th."

My philosophy on Monkey is to ignore it (from a training perspective) and just show up and run it with what ever I've got. This minimizes the recovery as well since if you don't train specifically for it and go through a whole peaking/tapering cycle you can't really run it hard enough to hurt yourself.

And anyway there's beer, from what I recall.

      Runners run.

So, an October marathon PR doesn't count as a 20 miler?

but I didn't have an October marathon PR.  Black eye   Cry

So I looked at the history of the runners most like me ....in training load and talent; ....like say...schneidr, and I see that the Monkey is only about 6 minutes slower than their usual marathon time, so that is what I should expect, right?  About 6 minutes slower?

In it for the long run..

In 2009 I ran Monkey after really good training and a 4:08 marathon in October.  I ran 4:18 at Monkey.  I could easily be an hour slower this year!  Smile

hhmmmm, so 10 minutes slower, with really good training.       So I'm looking at 20 minutes, is that what you 're saying?  Big grin

OK, I misinterpreted this from the Master's forum. But it still looks like > 20 to me.

Run your 20-miler on Saturday and again on Tuesday, and post your HR graphs from both, and then we can advise your next steps.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Yeah, wildchild's charting does make it look like that...     I got no PRs in October.

but I get to count that marathon as this training?  Cool   Cool  then I just need the long run this weekend.

I just checked the weather report!!!  It said 'cold rain' on race day!

Will there be bag check?  Will we be issed fleece lined ponchos???

They tend to be my best training runs.

Yeah, you can just wear it in place of a sports bra -- saves on laundry!

Just drive to the nearest airport -- TSA is almost always offering free bag checks.
