Missing from the list is 2:45:58 Fox Cities Marathon in September
The last 6 months of 2005 I quit drinking until Vegas Marathon in 2006 (December) - I will not get back to this level of consistency (Cellcom and the 20k were marathon paced training runs)
Was it not drinking beer - Or the fact that I was committed enough to training to not drink beer. I think the 1st.
Beerless 2013? Or maybe starting Monday November 19th?

2013 Goals ~ Mar < 3:00, 5M < 29, 10k < 35
Well, if you quit drinking now until next year, that's doable.
But a whole calender year?!?!
Yikes
?????. you run marathons so you can drink beer.

Is beer a known performance un-enhancer? How about averaging only a beer per day for an entire year? That might be workable. If you decide only to drink on weekends, you could consume all 7 in a single day or average 3.5 on Saturday and Sunday.
2013 Goals: Run trails.
"run" "to" "eat"
i find that since i've taken up playing words with friends, i spend less time reading.

Would you replace the beer with vodka or whiskey? If the answer is yes, I would say doable, if it's no, I would say crazy!
That is not why I run
Why do I need alcohol to enhance other experiences?
In the 18 months I did not drink - There were 4-6 times it would have enhanced the experience (Dinner with friends etc) The rest of the time I did not miss it ... Once I got over the addiction part.
Hawt and sexy
If you are addicted, what idiotic idea made you start drinking again?
I'm touching your pants.
Because life was better with beer. Now I am not so sure again - So I will try it without. The only thing it screws up is my running ...that and it helps to make me fat.
I am addicted to caffeine
I am addicted to running
I am a recoverying addict to nicotine
I think there is a difference between addicted and not in control. Or maybe I am wrong and there is a difference to habit and addiciton. I have never needed to drink to "Get Through" the day or a situation. But I enjoy drinking.
So there are 2 things going on - One I am sick of always being handicapped by my fat-ass and it is much easier to lose weight when not drinking. Two - Like last time I would like to see if life is better or worse without beer. You cannot do that in a week or a month or even 3 months.
I would guess it is 50/50 weather I can pull it off. Habitually there are many - many activities that my wife and I tend to mix alcohol with. A day at the ski hill, bowling, sporting events (Packers, badgers) - live or TV, boating, golf ... going out to eat. She will not be joining me if I do it.
Not in Chicago
This is what makes this so tough. Over the long run, your prioritazation of running cannot possibly be greater than the prioritization of all of these other life activities, particularly since these activities include your wife and running does not. 50/50 is very optimistic, and I wonder if this whole thing is even misguided.
You suck. You should just quit. Jackass. Welcome back.
I would not stop any other activities, I would just not be drinking during them ... it is not that hard to do ... until my wife orders a beer and you can tell she is enjoying the heck out of it.
There are only a few events that would be super hard not to drink
* Monkey
* Guys weekend
Then there is moderately hard events
* Hanging out with friends that we normally drink with
* After an ultra event
Everything else is just choosing not to.
I would just not be drinking during them ... it is not that hard to do ... until my wife orders a beer and you can tell she is enjoying the heck out of it.
Does your wife enjoy these events just as much when you are not drinking, or does she eventually resent the fact that you are choosing running goals over being completely free to enjoy these other activities in the way that you are both accustomed? If it were me, there would be my answer on how likely to be succesful I was, and the answer would be no.
She does not care as long as I do not ask her to not drink. She does not drink much, but often. I likely drink 2 times a week on average and she drinks 5 times a week. But she might have 7-8 drinks in those 5 times. She is a beer a night at home type person.
I drink or not and she doesn't care - We have fun drinking together - But she has fun either way.
Well then it's completely under your control - odds are much better. I'm sure you're right about the weight loss, so good luck.
It's weird hearing how much other people drink. I drink maybe twice a year. Drinking daily seems very extreme to me.
