rabutler 5 miles Wine at the Line Bargersville, IN < 46:00, drink wine

     44: 52 bitches! A 5:41 PR.

When I went to line up for the start of the race I saw that they had signs for 6, 7, 8, 9, etc min pace, so I lined up with the 9 min pace runners. I figured if I was lining up with the 9 min pace runners I should try and run a 9 min pace. After the first mile I was sucking wind and thinking maybe that wasn't such a bright idea.

I thought several times about slowing down. By mile 3 I was thinking maybe I should have run the 5K. It would still be a pretty decent 5K PR, but then I figured it was only 2 more miles. 2 miles was easy. At mile 4 we merged with the 5K runners. It got pretty crowded at that point and I was having trouble going straight much less trying to weave through oblivious slower runners. I was sure I was going to trample someone, but somehow I made it through.

The last half mile my legs were numb and I was pushing 95% max HR. Thank goodness there was plenty of wine after the finish to dull the pain.

    2013 Goal: HM < 1:45:00

3:55:15.....a 7+ minute PR, and a day I'll never forget because of 24 minutes of hell.

Congrats to rabutler and Soda on big PRs.    And Soda, good job on delaying the really serious dehydration problems til right near the end Smile

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

                Nice job Soda!

Good luck to everyone running today.

                2013 Goal: HM < 1:45:00

                I fly.

Fail. Unofficial time 4:30. But I did turn down medical attention 2x.

                  Bring it on.

Well Ilene called it, 1:07:58. I ran 1 second slower than she predicted, you know, just to prove her wrong. I'm a little creeped out by how close she was. I mean, not creeped out like she drives a rape van creeped out, but creeped out all the same.

How do you keep your feet on the ground, when you know you were born to fly?

Thank you for adding me, Candice.

This was a really weird race. Got stopped by a train for 1:49 (they told me after the race how long I was stopped). Kinda dumb since the race is in it's 3rd year, and it's been interrupted by trains every year. I didn't know that when I signed up. Oh well.

The time with waiting out the train was 18:44, but my running time was 16:55. No way of knowing what I would have run without the break. Faster than my goal time though. Candice, you can pick how you want to list that one!

No problem. I'll list as 16:55. There's a 5k here that they had to change the course because of that happening.

at least you didn't end up like this guy.

                             On a 5K?

Portland marathon gets interrupted by trains at least once, sometimes twice each year.  But you know...over the course of 4 hours or so.   I know trains are unpredictable (they really are, train schedules are the worst and freight doesnt run on a schedule) but seriously you would think on a 5K they could find a 30 minute window.

Anyway, awesome time no matter how you slice it.

That could almost have been me.  The 2nd crossing at PDX is like mile 23 or 24.  I was approaching, BQ hanging by a wire  and the gates started coming down.  In the HIGHLY rational state that a marathon brain is in at mile 23 I decided I could beat the train across.   The question is, would there have been a point at which I would have decided I couldnt.   I was pretty stupid at that point and talking to myself out loud but thinking I was talking quietly.

26.2k, goal try to run 7:00 pace or better Candice talked me into shooting 6:50

6:43 pace, third in AG got me a mum to give DW. Thanks to C for helping convince me push harder.

Now I remember how a metric marathon resembles a regular marathon -- starting to jog afterwards involves ludicrous hobbling.
