39 ~ nice
that is sub 3 marathon shape!
Willie_MN 10k Get in Gear <40 Negative split don't fail me now. 39:00 - officially beat my goal by 1:00 and it's always nice to run faster than the running calculator predicts. Negative split was questionable. Race starts out down hill and then mile 4 was a competitive spot with a pack but held on. I remembered what DB said. Steady running for 4 miles and pick up last 2.2. Repeated it over till I got to the finish. (6:09, 6:20, 6:15, 6:09, 6:08, 6:05 and last .2 (5:38 pace) . Thanks for the advice DB! 2nd Place Female Masters and winner of a age division tech shirt (I'll take it.) Candice/Ben - seriously that's tough running 2 weeks after Boston. Team Schneider dominates! Congrats to you both. Your PR is LEGIT Candice...that pie in the sky goal for Gary B's that we discussed. Believe it ; )

2013 Goals ~ Mar < 3:00, 5M < 29, 10k < 35
Did some bystander get video, because that sounds entertaining?
I wish!..or even a photo..cars driving past us gave us the horrified, and dazed look. we just kept running..THAT didn't happen! I swear!
Trail marathon on Sat: No broken bones, ran 1.5 bonus miles (got lost).Jill's 5k on Sun: Didn't drink beer last night, so didn't look hungover! (Jill did a wonderful job as RD, everything was perfect!). This was my 10 y/o's very first 5k so we ran with him, his pace.
meh
Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon Goal A: sub-4. Goal B: finishing without losing a toe.

My toe doesn't hurt at all today--or not that I've been to notice, at least.

39 ~ nice that is sub 3 marathon shape!
I don't think Willie has ever NOT gone sub 40 for a 10k. She will definitely bust out another sub 3 here soon!!
How do you keep your feet on the ground, when you know you were born to fly?
break'n three
Went out for a 2:43, had it at the half but crashed bad after mile 17. Somehow salvaged a sub-3:00 (2:57:25 finish) and won the marathon, but the long, slow fade at the end was tough to tolerate. That's two consecutive marathons (NYC and now Pine Line) where this has happened. Not sure if my confidence will be able to comeback from this setback anytime soon. Congrats to Candice, Willie and Ben on their races in the Get in Gear 10K. Nice times out there and I hear it was cold and rainy again, just like last year. Way to crank out some solid performances!!

Thanks Don! Congrats on the win! Sorry things didn't go well for ya. Probably hard to run a fast marathon during ultra training. That 2:43 is definitely in you. You'll get there.
Thanks for the heads up ~ I have to avoid races with her. Me and my fragile male ego not like getting chicked.
I try to stay in the sub 40 as much as possible.
DB - You're probably like Don. Go to a race for a practice run and then bust out a 36 something 10K.
According to the calculator now, I'm predicted for 3:03. That means I have 7 weeks to start doing my marathon homework to hold it up.
One day, sub 3 will be mine again...or like Candice and I agreed on Saturday, once we finally get it we're not done yet because we have to do it again to prove it really happened ; ) Never ends.
Don - YOU WON?! You didn't share that news with me on Sat. Good grief man, that's KASB! A win is a win! didn't we have that discussion here in this group somewhere. We all know so much can happen in a marathon. Hopefully you had a good time with hanging out at Chippewa to de-stress. Shake it off as I'm sure you will. Or the swamp can send in the dragon.
We're all in the quest of better times together.
Name Distance Race Goal Result Comments bhearn marathon Big Sur 3:05 - 3:10? Not sure how much I saved after Boston, also depends on weather. Usually a headwind. Course PR is 3:38. Best part will be soaking in the hot tubs at Ventana.

Fast is better than long
WTH do they feed you all in MN. Those are some rock-star results up and down the line-up.

What in the Jehu?
Ran 3:12. Actually, I'm pretty happy with that. It was a tough day, nasty headwinds, in fog banks. But mostly it's the hills. This is not a course you run fast. Good for 61/3357 OA, 5/264 AG, and the AG awards run 5 deep. There are also awards for top 5 Boston plus Big Sur times, and I'm crossing my fingers (not posted yet), but I doubt it. Top 10, probably. And lots of hot tub. :-)
3:12 at Big Sur! Dang! that is an incredible time especially after Boston! High 5 to that!
This week is tough. Every week is tough but this one was particularly so. Could have gone a couple directions and not gotten to many complaints. But after careful consideration:
: Willie_MN - helluva run. 39 10k. first female masters and 1AG. It was cool to see your races over the last couple weeks as prep for this goal race and then to see you execute it. Well done.
Honorable mentions:
Candice S. 1:44 PR 2 weeks post Boston.
bhearn: 3:12 at big Sur 2 weeks post Boston. Yikes.
highonrunning: Who the hell runs 17:10 5ks (1st OA) with a fucking dog? And gets wrapped around a pole once during the process? It was tough not giving you the MFEB for that feat.
I enjoyed managing the racing thread this month. Thanks for putting up with me. Great racing this month. Really great stuff.
Cheers.
Well deserved, Willie. [hat-tip]

Congratulations, Willie!
Great job EGH3, thanks for being a stellar race thread director!
Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.
" ..that corner has narrowed to a half-nekkid egyptian wandering about in the cold new jersey nighttime."~ R2E
Thanks, much appreciated. Not sure with the flyin' 17 min 5K with a dog in the mix. That is just ridiculous fast to be done solo.
You all have skills here that go beyond the clock.
I'm still the benny and swamp crasher here, so appreciate it even more.
Thanks to PaulyG explaining what the 8ball is all about (dude, your name change threw me but I have stalker skills and figured you out).

Extreme arbitrariness - welcome to the Swamp XGames. I'm in!
