2000 miles of WGs lot of ass

March 12 - 18 racing thread (Read 1143 times)

Damn!!! Two minutes in that range is HUGE.

    Exactly. Wow.

A good day in the Whaling City, passed some people that I never pass and took just less than two minutes off my PR.  1:19:18

      Holy Cow!

      Not in Chicago

Way to get after it BadDawg - and wow, 58 people under 1:15 and 1:19 good enough for only 120th.  I know New Bedford brings out the fast people but damn.

You suck. You should just quit. Jackass. Welcome back.

Nice work, BadDawg and Nader! Great races.

          Race: Germantown Half Marathon

          Location: Germantown, TN

          Goal: sub-90?

This will be day 18 of the 1 more mile challenge, which shouldn't be too hard since I'll have 13 supported miles and just need 5 miles in warmup/cooldown and still get back to the airport in time for my flight.

I ran 83 minutes even. Tweaked my neck on the starting line, but it only sent shooting pain from my right shoulder through the neck if I let my form start to get sloppy and a spectator handing me a beer at mile 7 mostly fixed that problem anyway. Went out for a 6 minute downhill mile at the start, then settled into the pace I'd hold until the last couple of miles. A lot of people passed me in the first 2-2.5 miles, but after that not a soul. I just reeled folks in 1 or 2 at a time and kept moving up.  Wound up running 17th overall, 15th male, and 1st of 87 for the 30-34 year olds.  I'd only gotten in 2 miles for a warmup (spent too much time in a port-a-potty but thankfully that solved isseues before the race) but got a 3 mile cool down in with Leah Thorvilson and Linda Somers-Smith so that worked out just fine.  Got 18.5 for the day, and also managed to get my mileage for all the other days I was at the RRCA Convention.

I wish I'd thought of it a couple of weeks ago to lay some ground work, but I also managed to get onto the local ABC affiliate's news broadcast for the 1 More Mile Challenge (even if they did give the wrong URL out...oh well.)  They cut out all mentions of the RRCA but at least the logo on my shirt was visible a little bit, and they did include some footage of me pretending to read one of the books I just published. So, some good exposure at least, and hopefully some folks will at least look up Camp Sunshine in the Memphis Area and donate even if it isn't through me.

Got a conference call in 10 minutes and then I'm out for today's 19 miles.  The training log is starting to really look fun now. Cool

Fun race, fun day, good tempo run (Ran the first 5-6 slow and then picked it up) and ran negative splits. Unfortunately had to bail for the post race festivities so missed out on the real fun after. Fitness is coming back slowly but can we push Boston back to May?? Probably not but worth a shot.

I'll join you with that request. Why not? Crazier things have happened around here. For example, winter rescheduled itself as spring and now spring seems to be on track to reschedule itself as summer.

              Alive & Running

25:01 for me in the 7K.  3rd place OA and 2nd in AG (or 1st since they exclude the overall winner from AG awards).  Faster than I thought I could run given the heavy mileage week (100 miles going into the race).  Very happy I can still run relatively fast on old, tired legs.

Oh and I still ran an extra 16.6 miles after the race to round out my long run.

what is it going to be like in Mid April???

Low to mid 50's. Overcast with occasional light drizzle. And a 40MPH tailwind.

Might be a good time to put on a windbreaker!

                      HAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.

We've had that experiment before. Good weather (mostly) follows me; storms follow Trent. The one race we ran together, Country Music Marathon '10, was fine until I finished. The downpour started just as I crossed the finish line, then tornado warnings. Trent was pulled from the course.

Moral -- anyone running Boston better finish ahead of me, if Trent is going to be there.

Good lord, there were some awesome results this week.   And I whipped out the old dart board to help me, but gosh NaderAlfie's 19 minute race, DoppleBock's OA win running a backwards marathon, and all you other wonderful boobs with your PRs and your hardware....sheesh, though two really stood out; the legendary BadDawg and his almost 2 minute PR (not to mention those twinkiling eyes and far out smile!), and TeaOlive, who not only finally broke into a 3 something marathon but shaved 4 minutes off her PR!

So this week's well deserving winner of the imaginary fucking cartoon Eight ball  is TeaOlive!!!   Congratulations, cutie!!
