Just make sure your Gu is compatible with the sports-drink they are offering on the course. A friend mixed Gu wth Powerade or something and ended up in the Tardis every 3 miles from 13 on.

I suggest drinking chocolate milk while running a long race. It is has a lot of protein and goes down super easy. Also comes back up super easy. Chocolate milk everyone is drinking it these days!
2013 Goals:
Now on a serious note. Chocolate milk after the run is a good idea. Great for recovery. Chocolate GU is da bomb for your run. I never drink anything but water on the course. I've heard too many horror stories about the gatorade or powerade not getting mixed right. I've worked to hard and long to have my day end badly because someone did not stir the drink correctly.
Don't pour sports drink over your head, only water.
Milk was a bad choice.
