Super Bowl (Football, Part Deux) (Read 501 times)

Not to interrupt the ragging of poor Berner, but let's talk Super Bowl: 1) Who you rooting for? 2) Who do you actually think will win? 3) Score predictions? Me, I'm on the fence. I'd planned to root for the Colts if they got this far (and the Saints weren't in it), figured Manning was due. Plus, if they win it all I can spend all summer pointing out that both my Cowboys and my Titans beat them ... Then again, Manning did annoy the piss out of me in the Pats game. And all this choke talk almost makes me hope he lives up to his rep. Or down to it. Also, the Bears are 7 point underdogs last I heard, and it's always fun to root for the underdog. So I'm still undecided. I guess I'm mostly hoping for a good close game, and that in the end the team that actually plays best wins the thing. How 'bout y'all?

      1. Colts, for a few reasons. I'm an AFC guy, they beat my team (so if they kick the crap out of da Bears I can imagine that if the Pats had just made a play they would be SB champs again) and then I still haven't totally forgiven da Bears for rubbing it in with a William Refrigerator Perry touchdown in the 46-10 trouncing they put on the Pats in SB XX. 2. Colts. They are the better team. The Bears didn't fare too well this year against AFC teams. They killed Buffalo (who didn't?) but lost to the Pats and Dolphins and struggled in winning against the Jets. Plus lets face it the Colts have a Huge advantage at QB. Manning's record in playoff and elimination games is average when compared with the immortal Tom Brady but he is head and shoulders over Grossman. And he is by far the better player. 3. Clearly I suck at this (see the other football thread) but Colts 27-10.

Wait, can you tell me once more who the 2 teams are?

That which does not kill us makes us stronger. Neitzsche "Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go." "Dedication and commitment are what transfer dreams into reality."

            1) Colts 2) Colts 3) 24-7 I'm a Redskins fan (i.e. football makes me sad), but I really have no NFC allegiance. Realistically, AFC teams are so much better than the NFC, and the bears are very inconsistent, courtesy of the Gross Man. I predict Rexy lays an egg and Peyton does just enough to win the game.

Very interesting. I consider it an important part of my personal philosophy, whenever I hear everyone agreeing that the outcome will be obvious ... to take a careful look at the alternative. Not saying the Bears will win, but all this consensus has me suspicious. Let's just say I won't be surprised when the experts pull a Manning here. Speaking of Manning, are none of you considering the possibility that he's very capable of throwing three or four or five interceptions, weeping like a little girl, and then blaming his front line? It's not as if it hasn't happened before. Or are you just assuming that Grossman will out-choke him? Or that the Bears just don't have the offensive weapons? Or will it be a defensive struggle? I'm in a quandary here. I want to root for the Colts, but at this point I'd be awfully amused if the Bears kill them.

And in other choking news .... looks like the pressure is getting to Rex:
Rex Grossman Is Sick of the Media Posted Jan 31st 2007 9:46AM by Michael David Smith Filed under: Bears, NFL Media Watch, Super Bowl "So, Rex, are you going to keep sucking on Sunday, or are you finally going to play like a professional quarterback?" No one, to my knowledge, asked Bears quarterback Rex Grossman that question in quite those terms, but that's been the gist of every question Grossman has faced: The media want to know how bad he is going to be on Super Bowl Sunday and whether he realizes how lucky he is that he has a supportive coach and a great defense. This morning Grossman finally struck back at the media. During his press conference today, he unleashed these two gems: "I'm answering the same questions. You guys don't do any research." and "This morning press conference, even how boring it is, I'm going to remember it for the rest of my life." It's easy to understand why Grossman would be extremely annoyed by now, but that's part of the job. And the scorn he's feeling now is nothing compared to what he'll hear if he throws the game away on Sunday.

You know who didn't kill the Bills this year??? The Colts, that's who. They only won by 1. And yeah, eff the Pats. Hahaha.
A lot of pressure in the middle of those shoulders / And we ain't gettin nothing but older / Ain't nothing change but the day we run from / But nobody knows that better than you,huh
Congrats, Berner. And congrats to Bears fans, for at least having your team keep it interesting for the first half. Too bad Lovie got outcoached. I know the Bears had (allegedly) a great defense, but hanging back and letting a QB like Manning throw easy short passes all day is no way to win. Kept it close, I guess, though. Boring, but close. As for Manning ... I stand by my comment: way overrated. Any Manning fan who saw his Super Bowl stats ought to be cringing. Anybody that makes Trent Dilfer look good doesn't deserve an MVP. What a joke that was. Rhodes was robbed. He was the impressive one, the obvious MVP. I'm already looking to draft him on my fantasy team. And now let me say what I've been wanting to say most: too bad the so-called champions couldn't beat my Cowboys. Smile
