You're definitely, officially back.
Dude, you really crack me up. I appreciate the comment, but I'm nowhere near back. I ran this race 15 minutes faster last year. I'm still an out of shape fat fuck right now.
But you gotta start somewhere, so consider this a start.

How much do I suck? Let me count the ways....
Great to see you out there. I have really got to pull myself away from work one of these times and have a beer with you. Or as you said do a home and home trail run beer drinking event.
Nice to see you and glad you managed your goal of not walking.
See you on the trails soon.

Despite my under-training and the windy, rainy weather, I managed to finish in 1:26:53 and had a good time doing it.

Slowly but surely I'm getting back.

I was 5th out of 68 in 6:24:24. I won the Marty Duchow award - which goes to the first finisher that lives below 1000' feet.
The altitude didn't seem to bug me too much...the only times I struggled were right before I got to Hilltop Station for the second time until about halfway between Stone Hut and Junction stations (~miles 25-31 or so) after it started getting warm. Once I was back down to around 6500 feet I was able to catch my breath, and I was in 8th place at that point.
I saw one person taking his time at the aid station, though, and after turning back onto the pavement with 6 miles to go and looking up the road I saw 2 guys that had powered by me while I'd been struggling so I paid them back by breezing past them at about 7 minute pace. It took me about 2 miles to catch them both, and I beat them by 6 and 14 minutes so that I could get 5th place.

You suck. You should just quit. Jackass. Welcome back.
IOW MLK Marathon: 2:42:57 (Des Moines, IA). This was a solid run form me considering stretches of snow/ice covered and 20 degrees with a 20 mph wind out of the north.
I was hoping that a few of the half marathoners would run with me on the first loop the plan was to run 6:50's on the first loop then 6:07's on the second loop. I started picking up the pace when I realized that it would be impossible to consistently run 6:00's on the second loop because of the icy patches. There was one water stop at mile 7 but I decided to skip it because I would have to stop and grab my own water.
Half way point I downed 8 ounces of nuun which was half frozen and a red bull shot.
It started to snow/sleet on the 2nd loop even with screw shoes I was still losing traction. With 7 miles to go I decided to hit 5:50's whenever possible even if it was only for 200 meters. I felt very strong at the finish, this was a very big confidence boost that I should be in shape for my next "real" marathon in 7 weeks. Negative splits with worsening conditions!
