When I go to a forum, I see the name and the time of the last post, but if I go to the thread, I sometimes don't see those posts. Is there something else, beside me being a moron, that I should know ?
Slow and steady never wins anything.
Sometimes its a modification to an existing post (spelling/grammar, etc) and other times fixing a link that did not work right the first time and so on. There could be folks using that mechanism to bump an old thread, but that is really rare.

Well, if you are saying that the posts implied by the last post thing you are clicking don't exist... at all... that is something I'd like to see. You can't delete posts here. If you are saying that you click that and it goes somewhere other than the end of a thread, that's because "last post" is really "the last thing done in a thread, which may have been someone modifying their previously existing post".
Also, The Man recently updated something.... if you click a thread's title in the forum list itself, that used to take you to the beginning of the thread. Now it tries to take you to the last unread post (which may or may not be the last post in the thread). But there are ways to shenanigan-ize this if someone modifies an old post.

Thanks. That kind of make sense. I have a history of being banned on different intervebz sites, so I'm never 100% sure what is going on.
