Alive & Running

I did okay.  Slippery course with a lot of turns.  17:08, good for 1st place OA.  I might have been able to break 17 if I didn't have so many damn turns, especially in the last mile.  Felt good to run a fast time again.  Maybe, just maybe I'll actually train for a 5K marathon one of these days instead of running 17 miles the day before the race.  Wink

    Milktruck say relentless

Well I don't know what to do with ya'll!  I got a super fast runner (cute too!) chasing after police motorcycle instead of towards the finish line, Hstreet keeping up her hardware collection without even trying, Willie MN back from  the dead due to pigeon-toed competitors, PRs left and right, Don S. running a bunch of slippery turns to smash his goal and win the race, and a bunch of kids forgetting to post their goals on time (I'm looking at you L_Master, hsemerson, and J-Lee-C)

lagwaon had a great PR even if it may be short he still would have PRd, JBrger has been having a hell of a year and really called it with her 'ish', and Troy. PR'd and placed.

      Gah

I'm giving this week's imaginary cartoon fucking eightball Eight ball to JBerger!  Long may she run!  Congratulations fast chick.  Smile

Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

        Great choice!!

          Congrats, Jberger!

Had a good one going, but got misled by the police escort in the last mile. Here's the writeup, but split 50:32 through 9 miles.

Tough break, you think races would figure this part out by now and post monitors to guide in the first runners.  Glad I'm not fast.  I hear this stuff happens to front runners a lot.

            The tangents are moot.

Set the bar low. Crawl under it.

The Striders were nice and refunded my entry fee, and Peter called me after the race to personally express his apologies. They did have course monitors at all the turns. But the cop turned where there was no course monitor. Apparently he had already driven the course before the race, and he couldn't have turned down that road as it actually was a dead end. I'm not sure why he turned -- we did have to make a left, but we needed to go one more block before we did it.

I think this one is all on the cop. He was not a good lead vehicle, as he was never very close to me, never made any communication with me, and consistently sped more than a quarter mile ahead to the next police station to chat with his buddies while I caught up to him. Just before he made a wrong turn, he was "playing" on his bike by doing little "S" turns, of the type you do when you are really bored in slow traffic.

In the future, it would probably be better to have a RD or solid volunteer drive along with or right behind any police escort, ans they don't really understand racing and in my opinion cannot be trusted to follow the course. The same thing happened to me a couple years ago on this same course, but it was in the second mile. That time, I directed the cop back on course. I wish I had been more aware, but frankly in the last mile of a race it's hard to count on runners to make good decisions.

I ran Marshall this weekend and they had people directing you at most of the places but when you run through the university they have a bunch of twist and turns.  As you guessed it with no direction.  Luckily I was running with a group of guys and the person in the lead was paying attention to the markings on the ground.  However, this thing is a two loop course and at the very end.  So when I was running the last .5 giving it everything I had so as not to miss my goal I missed a mark and started to run the wrong way.  Luckily some dude yelled at me "Dude your going the wrong way, watch the marks on the ground!"  I wanted to yell out something like "You run 26 miles with burning quads, a stich in your side and a hamstring ready to pop and see how well you do with looking down at some stupid green arrows!"  I did not though as he did save my ass from going in the wrong direction.

Great course but pretty boring.  3:12:55 for the BQ thought I was never going to get that again after this past year's marathon struggles.  Was thinking I was going to have to wait till 45 when it goes to 3:25!

                2013 Goals:

                • Sub 18:30 5K ()
                • Sub 1:29:30 1/2 marathon (1:29:52 try at Heart Mini 3-18-2012 )
                • Sub 3:010:00 Marathon ()

I raced like an idiot on Saturday...

The first quarter mile, NO ONE went out at a respectable pace. No joke... I was in front by a LOT and my first mile was an 8:16. So, like an idiot, I decided to go and try to win it.

                  It didn't turn out well.

I ran great-ish through 23... It was a 9-lap (plus another small out and back) route, and I led through the first 7 laps. It all caught up to me on lap 8. I twice spent a few minutes sitting on my butt on the side of the trail. My legs were gone. I ran/walked my way through the rest and finished in 4:42. Still a 30+ minute PR for 50K, but with cooler weather and a little bit more conservative start, and I would have easily had 4:20. Yep... lost that much time.

Oh well. Fun leading a race like that for so long.

Thanks!  Although I am a bit embarrassed that I missed my goal by so much Blush.....I'll get it next time!

                    Alive & Running

                      Very well deserved.  Congrats JBerger!!
