3:06:00. .....What a dumb painful distance. Very sore after finish line - could not lift one leg for quite a while.
Now I understand why you were sitting when I saw you.
Awesome race. Well done.

Thanks - and thanks for coming and running our marathon.
7min PR, so very happy about that. Carrying and taking gus was a new experiment for me - took one at about 6 and one around 13 I think. Had a third but never remembered it - too tired to even think of it- so maybe more calories would have helped.
A friend ran his debut targeting 3:30, took 8 gus, and ran 3:19. He also weighs more. Does it make sense that the more you weigh, the more calories you're burning, the more advantage you get from consuming calories during the race?
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

You should be happy. A 3:06 and a 7 minute PR? That is huge. You just keep getting faster. It is fun to watch. It is also cool how you really go after every distance out there.
Congrats.

Who's Gus and why are you carrying him?
The tangents are moot.
Set the bar low. Crawl under it.
Maybe this guy.

13 miles into a marathon I haven't much idea what I'm doing about anything.
Just .03 faster and I'd be completely rooting for Sonya Richards.
Oh, and what are the 8-ball rules about running only part of a race with no goal, but winding up drunk and producing the most inspiring write-up -- can we vote for Don S?
It's never what you'd think.
For example, I have a one buddy named Gus. His name is Jonathan, but his mom could never say it right, she would always call him "Shjon'son." So, we call him Johnson or "Gus."
I have another friend nickednamed Gus. His real name is Amgad. That is ugly in any zip code, ergo "Gus."
See?
Nope, can't vote for him, A1, Ben or Sonya Richards......

Sounds like you had a beautiful race - God I love that distance ... in a sick S&M fetish kind of way!
Fantasized almost seriously about quitting at the half, then at the 16mi, then 18mi, then 20mi. But after that I gave up and planned on pushing it in. What a dumb painful distance. Very sore after finish line - could not lift one leg for quite a while.
3:06:00. Thought I'd pick up something shiny, but 4AG. Happy with time. Fell in with three other guys and we ran pretty much the whole rest together, except one guy was faster and he picked it up from the halfway point. All four of us went through half at 1:32, then he went on to break 3, and the rest of our group came in just under 3:06 (or at, for me). I worked to not drop from the group, being pretty sure I'd fade seriously if I dropped. Fantasized almost seriously about quitting at the half, then at the 16mi, then 18mi, then 20mi.
