Mikey, hehe nope not terrier colors. Smile The red is more of a orangey red than a fire engine red. But yeah the Red and White are pretty much right on. Random: I found a 2006 BAA T-shirt at a discount clothing store on Saturday. I bought it. I'm totally wearing it as my lay around the house/sleep in shirt. Maybe if I sleep in it dreams can come true. Cute huh? Are you gonna hang out in downtown Boston for the 16th? I wish I was going. My best friend is running in it and a very close friend of mine is also running in it. So proud of both of them.
running until I hit 1900 miles for the year. whether fast or slow I will just run.
Ah, yeah it's a bit orange now that you mention. My neighbor is the A.D. at BU so I should know their colors. Not sure about my plans for marathon monday yet. I guess I'm technically working. One of my friends from the office, and one of our lunch time running crew, is running it so maybe we'll jog over to try and see her. The closest point on the course to my office is the finish and that's the worst place to view from so not sure yet.

Why is the finish the worst place to view? Crowded or something? I heard finish lines are like emotional and stuff...

Yeah it's a zoo. Crowds 10 deep. Plus the immediate finish area is all sectioned off for VIP seating, the med tent, etc., etc. The family meeting area is one block south on Stuart St. You can't really get close to the finish except on the north side of Boylston and that is wall-to-wall people.

Wow that sounds nuts! I guess I'll bring my cell phone with me when I run so that I can tell everyone when I finish and where to pick me up off the ground. Very shortly after finishing my first marathon I basically just sat on the ground. Getting up was difficult. Then I had to take a flight home so I had to continue my marathon by getting through the airport with carry on luggage. I digress... Is there lovely weather there? Spring fever in the air? I could use a great Patriots Day weekend... but then it would be minus the alcohol. Too much of that lately. Sad

40 and rainy. Just pissah right now. The Sox open the season tonight in KC though...actually as I type this I think they're already underway. There it's baseball season. So I guess the warm weather can't be far off (but not too warm for the marathoners please.)

Goooooo baseball! I love baseball Smile I "survived" my first 10k speedwork. Damn it's easy. Throw me on hilly trails with uneven terrain, and that is ROUGH. The track, feh, that's easy! Big grin whoooooo hooooo

Guaranteed to be warm on marathon day. I ran Boston 13 times back from 1979 to around 1994 and I think 1983 was the only good weather year I remember. Cool and a nice tailwind. Greg Meyer ran 2:09, Joanie ran an AR (2:21?) and I ran 2:49. Great day.... So be ready for warmth and then cool sea breezes once you get near Boston that will cramp your legs up. I never did run well at Boston, except for that one year. I'm thinking of trying to qualify this fall...it would be nice to go back. But man ultrarunning and age has really slowed me down. Dead Steve

Steve, my friend said if you aren't elite they make you run the Boston Marathon at around or a little before lunch time. I can't imagine that is good for your fuel system! bleh. I'm a morning runner who needs to run at most 2 hours after eating. More than that, I'm screwed.

It was always run at noon time for everyone....has that changed? We used to lie around outside the gym in Hopkinton (or inside if it was cool) waiting for the lineup for the start after the early morning bus ride from Copley. I agree that an early morning start is better for not only fueling, but also temp. I wish they had gels when I was running marathons. We used to run them on water only and you wonder why we all crashed so bad at Cleveland Circle !

                        ....has that changed?
Yes, the elite women get to start early and the regular folks are now started in 2 waves. Elite Women Start: 9:35 a.m. Elite Men & Wave 1 Start: 10:00 a.m. Wave 2 Start: 10:30 a.m. Thank God. The noon start was the dumbest thing in the world. 10 a.m. is still too late IMO. In 2004 it was in the 40's as we boarded our club bus in Medford to head out there. When we got to hopkinton it was in the 50's. By the time we left the bus for the last time to walk to our corals it was 75+. At the start it was 80. By the time I got to Brookline it was 86 and my marathon dreams had long been reduced to smoldering ashes.

Steve, wow the old school of running has changed. Now we are iPods, fuel systems, and GPS locators. My goodness. Its amazing that people actually do work, considering the silver platter upon which we do our feats of endurance. Just water for 26.2 miles. Now that would lead me, personally, to really carboload. I'd probably eat similarly to how a sumo wrestler eats after periods of forced starvation (you know they binge-cycle them to make them gain weight?). Anyhow, I've run on zero fuel during my 20 mile runs before and the only way I can do that is if I eat a personal pizza. Smile And ice cream. And cookies. Personal pizza + ice cream + cookies = good long run sans fueling all along the way! Anyhow... I don't know what the deal is with the late start. Maybe it's for the spectators rather than the runnres. If that's the case then all the more reason to be a little huffy about it. I was a good spectator from my brownstone apartment from 1995-2000. I was running then but never dreamed of doing a marathon. Come to think of it, I can't believe I have done one. I'd play music out my windows... nothing that I'm sure anyone really liked, but I had good intentions. But the frat boys on the roof always had louder music than me so I'm not sure what my logic was. Steve, you'll go back to Boston! You should. I'll be there, I'm determined. Striving for PR's and a year of injury free, steady motivation running in 2007. Big grin
