BEER ME (Read 3065 times)

Prince of Fatness

By the way, somewhere else there was a conversation about New Castle Brown Ale.  Sam Smith Nut Brown Ale was recommended.  I tried some over the weekend.  It was very good, but I like the Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale better.

Potato: Our tastes are very similar. Maybe we'll get to hoist one a few someday. But I'd bump up Guinness a tad higher. Could be my ancestry.

Alright Guinness lovers, help me out.  It's been a while since I have had one.  I'll try it again and see what happens.  Specifically what should I try?  Last one I had was a can of the draught.  Is this the stuff you guys are speaking of?

Your problem may be one of volume: "The last one I had ..."

On tap.  From a keg.  preferably in Dublin.  Not in a can.  Not in a bottle. Not in a box. Not with a fox. Not in a house. Not with a mouse.

Thanks, Dr. Seuss, but it needs to be bought in a package store.  Can or bottle, preferably bottle.

Why must it be bought in a store?  Why must everything be convenient?  Phelps in a can.

(general consensus is that the can is better than the bottle for faux-draught Guiness)

And since we are talking ancestry, I am of Polish decent.  So if you can get your hands on it, try this.  Very good.

Because I am putting a kid through college and cannot afford a trip to Dublin right now.

Tap is best - assuming the barkeep actually knows how to properly pour. Next can then bottle.

and Trent - where would you buy your packaged beer if not in a store? From trunk of someone's car? We can't grow that in Indiana but if you can in TN, help a brother out and teach us man. I'll have a garden this spring.

About a dozen years ago, I did a story on a guy who's job it was to go around the country teaching bartenders how to properly serve a pint of Guinness. A lot has to do with getting the right mix of gas and clean lines (that part is important for all beers.) His name was Sean something. Had been a banker in Ireland and then somehow got one of the best jobs in the world.

What is it with all the GDDMN split infinitives today?!?

Potato Head can buy a keg and nitrogen tap system if he wants convenience.

Best way to drink Guinness is from a tap, not too cold. Assuming you can't get that, you can attempt getting the right serving temperature (~45 F) by using two cans of draft.

Put one in the fridge and one at room temp. The combination of both should get you close to the right chill.

The glass should be room temp too. Let it settle. Pouring a real pint takes about three minutes.

                            The process is the goal.

Frankly, if you are gonna drink a Guinness from a can, this is how you should do it:
