The med staff were wither to cool for their own good, or Don's was coherent enough to convince them the condition was not serious. I don't think Hyponatremia is a condition to mess around with as we all know.
Re Trent: Could have been....but I didn't drink any gatorade at all that day, only water...and lots of it. And it was hot out. I'm not that stupid anymore. I used to think Gatorade was the cause of my stomach issues, so I was worried more about not crapping myself than staying alive. I found out Gatorade had nothing to do with my stomach issues.
Hyponatremia is what they told me. Which makes sense with all the water I drank. (but dehydration and hyperthermia also do...)

+1. Hyponatremia is scary stuff.

Do not down play how bad Don had it - I saw his 1st lap stagering around the lake after they released him.
In a warm race the 1st 8-12 hours a person usually losed weight = 1) Some glycogen depletion and dehydration while they can go fast enough for that sortof stuff. The last 12 hours we usually gain weight as muscle damage and bloating start. Don gained 6-7% body weight 10-11 pounds in the 1st half of the race. To compare I lost 14 pounds in the 1st half ~ together we would have had a perfect race.
I probably overstepped my bounds - But I told his tent when he returned to make him sit for at least 1 hour. I was scared for him. He makes my top 3 all time 24 hour race "In a bad condition" list - For how he looked on that lap ... quit possible in the gold medal spot.

This week's cartoon -ball to Don S, not for speed or distance, but for sheer toughness.
Bill Wagnon / stl
Congratulations, Don S!!!
maybe 2 overlapping circles - One for toughness and one for stupidity ... I mean that in a friendly way Don.
Where they overlap = DON S at FANS 24 hour runners
BTW - The stupidity is not for getting saltless - But for continuing on after you were in that state
Welcome aboard - You are now a 24 hour runner - Leave your common sense at the door please
Yes!

Congratulations and I'm glad your confidence and determination saw you through. You almost looked chipper on those 1/4 mile loops.

Oh wow, Seriously?!? I don't know how I could get the not having come anywhere close to my 200K goal, but I'll gladly take that cartoon thingy.
You're right DB, definitely dumb but I do dumb shit like that a lot. Once I get an idea in my head I can't let it go and my idea at that point was that if I kept moving I'd recover and then start running again and at least get 100+. Not to be, but it was fun trying.
Thanks again everyone!!
Oh and Pauly, I actually was chipper in the last two hours of that race. Once I started running again I ran by my campsite and afterward my buddy Adam said it looked like I had an evil grin on my face, something very maniacal. That's when I said to myself "I'm doing this shit again next year!"
