I have no idea what kind of shape I'm in now as my training has sucked ass lately.  That said, I think I need to be in <1:23 shape because a) I'm tired of sucking ass and b)how the hell am I going to set any other PR's if I continue to run like shit.

    Carry on....

Official time is 1:22:07. Way better than I expected.

    2013 Goals:
    Run  trails.

I just found the map mgerwin gave me.

Dude -- Holy crap that was a hilly course - my quads are trashed.

SLIMBO -- Fail -- 1:32:23 -- did finish 6th O/A and 2nd in the AG.  Good fitness test -- picked off 2 guys over the last 1.25m mile and finished strong.  Pleased with outcome

      2012= under-goaled

Sherry's Run 5K  24.34, 1min and 14 sec better than 2 weeks ago.  Happy that I ran harder and smarter this race.

So you didn't post this before you ran it, right?

I can't decide whether to be all Happy Feet, or Carl A with my term as Eight ball giver outer. Happy Feet would put it in. Hell, he would put in someones race who isn't even a member of the swamp. I mean, Carl A didn't even put me in when I won a freakin marathon. I thought I had the Eight ball for sure that weekend.

I like Carls style better. Sorry Dallas...but great job! Smile

How do you keep your feet on the ground, when you know you were born to fly?

Not bad, for an early season race. How many more XC races do you have this year?

Thanks, I was pretty happy with it.  I've got 6 more "races" but I think the next 2-3 weeks will be more training oriented, with Oct. 8 being my next big race.

Hey yeah, nice run. I raced XC in Franklin Park about 12 years ago.

EGH3 Leg 8: 4.4 miles from Hell Lake Winnipesaukee Fred Brown Relay NH 36:00  36:26 36:42 last year, also the back end of a double.

Leg 6: I took down 3 teams during leg 6. got off to a bad start. didn't get a warm-up in so started pretty cold after being in a car for 3 hours. Got a side stitch and my shins were on fire so I slowed down a little in the first mile and got passed. but I kept him about 5-10 yards in front of me, began to feel better and crept up on him. he looked back twice so I knew I had him. Once we hit the big hill in the middle of the leg, I went right by him and could tell he was gassed. Passed two others and then handed the baton to Bad Dawg. 7:47 pace isn't bad but I'm pretty sure was was sub 7:30 during the second half but I left my Garmin at home so don't know the splits.

Leg 8: took the baton from Bad Dawg and aftter running down a cliff face at the beginning, I was dying on the huge, steep first hill. But I kept running. Passed one guy that had to stop and walk. A huge RV drove by me and a guy yelled out the window, "Pick him off!" I waved and then realized they were yelling to the dude behind me. He went by me fast. I didn't really care since I was pretty much in survival mode on the hill. But about a half mile later he was puking on the side of the road. Ran by him and asked how he was and he didn't look up. His buddues in the RV were there so I just kept going. Nice down hill stretch after that and I opened it back up and ran pretty hard. Pukeboy had started running again after I passed him but I it wasn't long until I couldn't hear his footfalls anymore. Long uphill to the finish and you can see it the whole way.  After getting through the shoot, I was walking back when he came through the shoot and he puked again in the shoot. He collaped under a tree, puked again and then his friends tended to him. Gotta respect the hills. Dumbass.

Driving home yesterday past the finish, I was thinking, "What kind of fool would run up that hill?" can't believe I knocked 16 seconds off last year's time. It was good to race again. liked having rabbits to chase. And my lungs feel like I smoked a pack of Marlboro Reds Saturday night.

Succeeded in getting drunk Saturday night as well. Great weekend all around.

Bradbury Bruiser - 3rd of 3 races. I'm going to take it as a given that Judson will show up and kick everybody's asses again, because that's what he does. Hopefully Kevin Tilton shows up too so he at least has some competition.

Last year I ran 88:14, and this year I've been a minute or so behind my times in the other 2 races of this series (6 and 9 miles each) so I expect I'll run about 90 minutes.

                        Name: Run to WIn

                        Race: Bradbury Bruiser

                        Where: Pownal, Maine

                        Distance: 12 Miles

                        Goal: sub-90

Sorry for the late update...been a bit gimpy.

It took me around 41 minutes longer to run the race this year than last year...but had I not gotten hurt, I'd have been 3rd. 4th place probably would have been 2-4 minutes behind me and 1st and 2nd would have been 6-8 minutes ahead of me.

On the Island Trail, my foot slipped through some mud and got wedged under a tree root, wrenching my ankle.  It didn't feel like it had broken so I kept moving in an effort to keep it from swelling and hoped that within a mile or two I could pick up the pace again. It took about 30-35 seconds for 4th place to catch up to me (Kevin Tilton and Judson Cake were probably about as far ahead of me as I was of Andy, if not more.)

It took about 5.5 to 6 miles before I hit trails that were smooth and straight enough to only be sore to run rather than painful; was able to get a 6:20-6:30 pace going up the snowmobile trail.  Fox West wasn't too bad either and I passed a lot of hte people I'd let by.

Once I got to the O trail, though, the frequent twists, turns, rocks and roots made me have to walk due to the pain, once I started walking the foot swelled and that made it tough to run, so while I did run it in I had to walk most of the O trail.

Unfortunately, that meant I couldn't help pick up the course, but the race directors felt I had a good enough reason for that. Spent the rest of the afternoon with my foot elevated, icing it now and then, and kept it elevated all night while I slept. Wasn't too painful this morning, although after I've been sitting a while it does hurt to walk on it. Don't need the crutch though, and should be fine in a day or three, I think. Once I get home from work it'll get elevated again.

My series standing went from a solid 2nd place to 18th place.

                        Final time: 2:09:51

(Lots of blood and gore - Judson Cake got 2nd after he fell and broke a wrist and 2 fingers about 3 miles from the finish line, Andy in 4th needed 6 stitches, and Jerry had a mostly red shirt that used to eb white. Fun to be had by all.)

Okay so I really want to give the Eight ball to Riggs because i'm most impressed by hard work and super fast running....but I guess technically he said he wanted to run 1:09:00, not 1:09:22 So when I realized that I was all "Damn. If I do this...it'll be like the time someone gave the Eight ball to that one dude for skipping his race because his wife had a baby...."  Which may or may not be the same weekend Ben PRd huge and ran a 2:28, and a bunch of other people ran a bunch of other fast times. I bet Riggs ran a fast time that weekend too. I bet someone that isn't even a member of the swamp ran a really fast time that weekend. I bet if Happy Feet had been over the race thread that weekend that non-member would have gotten the Eight ball. Happy Feet doesn't give out Eight ball's to people for having babies. Happy Feet knows how to do.

                          Anyway...

So then I was all, "No, it wouldn't really be like that at all." But technically, you know, he doesn't really deserve it because he didn't meet his stated goal. So then I was all, "What about this new guy?" XCbird or whoever. That was a good race. Solid running. Close to his goal. He probably learned to run like that at Camp Crystal Lake. That's respectable.

Then there were those two dumb asses that ran relays. I considered them for a second. Mostly Happy Feet for being the dumber of the two. Relays are hard. They make me smell funny and they make me cry. When they're over they make me terrified that i'm going to fall asleep before the Chinese take-out arrives.

But then I was all...relays are stupid. Nobody should win a prize for running a stupid relay. When you run a relay you end up rolling around in your teammates ass-sweat in the backseat of some sketchy van borrowed from BCR, or the likes. You have nightmares that your teammates have parked you in the middle of the road. When you jump up and yell "WHY ARE WE PARKED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD?!" they just laugh at you. Their tired, delirious laughter. So you laugh too. Then you look around and you're scared because it's 3am and you don't know why you're laughing. The next time you wake up you're laying in a parking lot at 5 am and someone from the city is changing the trash can next to your head. You find a bagel in your pocket, so you eat it. After your 1st leg you spend the rest of your time worried that one of your teammates is not messing with you and really is going to sue you for accidently popping him in the knee with a bunjee cord. Or worse, he's going to pop you back.

Yea. Relays are stupid. Nobody that runs a relay should get a prize.

So the stupid GDDMN FCKNG Eight ball goes to flatfooter, whose goal was <1:23. He ran 1:22:07.

Here is what he said: "Official time is 1:22:07. Way better than I expected."

Isn't that what makes running fun? Isn't that why we do it? Because sometimes, some days, we do way better than we expect. We run a time we didn't think we could run, a time we had never expected to run. Those days are few and far between... but they're the days that keep us at it. Those days should be awarded. Rewarded? One of those.

(So should 1:09 half marathons, but whatever, I didn't make the rules around here. I'm just filling in.)

Congrats flatfooter. This ones for you! Eight ball

Congratulations Flatfooter on a well deserved Eight ball.

I do think my relay was stupider, never doing an Ultra relay again (maybe not my final answer).

On a side note my quads are numb for some reason today after my recovery run last evening. Feels like alcohol buzz, only in the legs rather than the head.
