PR 34OA
4AG
I couldn't be happier. Pretty fast field as I only came in 34th OA and 4th in my AG, but it was a PR by 45 seconds.
Field of 1300.
Saturday
Blah. This was pretty much a time trial. I won by a mile...literally. It was a small race, and I wasn't expecting much, but I wish I could have gone a little faster.
Nice little hometown race..all the clubs came out and JImmy Grabow came to win it (30:45!)
Intent on another post-college PR.

1M 2OA
(34 miles)
Got lost, ran 34 miles in 4:35. Shoe-sucking mud. I don't think I would have quite caught Annie (Thiessen) anyway. She's damn fast. Won a golden spike.
Zach Gingerich won the 50M in, I think, 6:42. He also took a wrong turn, and ran 55 miles.

Very pleased.

Distance: 5K
Date: June 3 (Sunday)
Race: Sprint for Monroe
Goal: 17:30
Things will have to align for 17:30 to happen (weather, competition, controlling stoopidity, stars, etc.), so this is a stretch goal, but I'm taking a swing.
But Och! I backward cast my e'e, On prospects drear! An' forward, tho' I canna see, I guess an' fear!

OCD If you don't laugh ...
Not sure whether I should be racing this 3 weeks out from Western States. I raced a 50K two weeks before my first 100, but that was a much easier 100. Hmm. May turn into an easy training run.

Distance: Half Marathon
Date: June 3
Race: Minneapolis Half Marathon
Goal: 2:09:50 - 2:09:59
Comments: Leading the 2:10 pace group this week.
Slower than I normally pace since my wife was hoping to run 2:10. That might not happen but I plan to bring the group in right on time regardless. 9:55's might be a little awkward at first, but within 10 seconds is the goal, and hopefully within 5 seconds.
"I aim to misbehave."
That's impressive. I hope the mile markers are well placed. Isn't a 30- or 60-second goal window more typical?
Drank all weekend long ~ Camping is good like that. Weighed 217# (+22) Monday afternoon. Basically dehydrated, full of poison and shit. Noon today I was 208. I am sure I will weigh 200ish by Thursday morning. I am not that worried.
Weather appears reasonable - Mid 50s at start - High in the mid 70s and then low 60s overnight.
I have tapered more this time than other races and I am sticking with that thought - I should hit 27-30 miles prior to Saturdays gun.
I did not finish out the last 2+ weeks very good with nutrition, but I am fit so screw it. I have a lingering cold (Last 10 days) that keeps me up most the night hacking up stuff ... main goal is to TCO that this week. Funny - I though all that tequila would have taken care of it ...
DB 24 hour June 2-3 FANS24
Goal #1 60 laps (144.54)
Goal #2 63 laps (151.80)
Goal #3 66 laps (159.07)
I really have no right setting any goal but to be 59 laps or greater - I think Goal #2 is beyond my current fitness and goal # 3 is pure fantasy.
So to be fair - Just put me down for - To beat the course record = 147.41 miles. I think I have a 33% chance of success.

What in the Jehu?
I knoe DonS is staying out of the public eye ~ So I will take the liberty of setting a fair set of race goals for him. I believe he has a ton of potential and could do really well, but it is his 1st 24 hour race and it is unfair ot heap expectation on him. Here is what I think is fair for a 1st time 24 hour racer with Don's skills
1) Break 100 miles
2) > 123.57
3) > 136.01
1) Any time you can break 100 miles in under 24 it is a good day.
2) That was the best I could hit with my 1st 24 hour effort and it was all out
3) In the 20+ years that they have been doing FANS24 - 136.01 is the 2nd all time distance ~ So think about it 20+ years!
So I think a great distance for Don as a out there goal is 200K = 124.2 miles. If he is 200k or > I think he hit a grand slam. So many things can and will go wrong in a 24 hour race - It will be a test of fitness, resolve and problem solving skills ~ Plus the luck of the draw to see if you have a cooperating body that day.
Good running Don!
Thanks, man! One cool thing is that I will have a ton of buddies either running in the race or watching and supporting. (a1 is also running--sorry, dude, you are outed!)
You will get more bang for your travel buck, though if you head to FANS. Plus you would see some real suffering, not that 5 minutes of pansy grunting we have to do.
The last 3-4 hours many of the runners look worse than the Zombies on The Walking Dead. Not much of a spectator friendly race.
Good running to Jeff and A1 ~ If A1 does not set a goal, we can do it for him. I will let you have the honors.
