The Logic of Long Distance
Inspiring, Doug!
And, this:
Now I know why Doug always has that crazed look in his eye.
Whoa. That's seriously more stunning than any of our stunts, streaks, or stupid runs.
Congrats!

Congrats on making those life changes.
104 races in one year is amazing.

Anyway ... I have printed this article out for future reference. The next time some one that is out of shape and over weight wants to try and tell me they "Can't do it" - It will be my weapon to tell them they can and they should start today!
+1
Awesome work, your story is going to be such a huge inspiration for so many people. I'm going to forward it around to my coworkers and friends.

I did not see where the article mentioned RA or the Swamp ?
Welcome to Fight Club The Swamp. The first rule of The Swamp is: you do not talk about The Swamp. The second rule of The Swamp is: you DO NOT talk about The Swamp! Third rule of The Swamp: if someone yells "GETM!", goes limp, or taps out, the race is over. Fourth rule: only one guy can win a race. Fifth rule: one race at a time, fellas. Sixth rule: the races are bare knuckle. No skirts, no ipods, no fuel belts. Seventh rule: races will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at The Swamp, you have to run.... runners run.

Man, that is unbelievable. Congratulations to you on everything you've accomplished, and I hope you had a lot of fun on Monday.
By the way, how did those socks work out?
Very cool - A perfect example to prove its never impossible to make a change. You are where you are today, but with a plan and a huge amount of determination you can acheive mind boggling results.
This is a great lesson that can be applied to so many areas of life, not just running.
Keep up the good work.

Dopple Bock I hope you are right as Some day I would really like to break 5 hrs and 4:30 as well so I will not so ashamed of my times. I want to move from being a finsher/ professional plodder as a friend calls me to a runner some day.
"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run."
