    I don't know you but I have a feeling you don't smoke.

If I can find a way to extend the life of someone I care about it would be worth the cost.  It is probably more selfish on my part because nobody is saying they are not happy.  However, I can't tell you the number of times I have heard someone say I would love to stop smoking or I need to start running to get healthier.  If all it takes is a little incentive from me to get them going then I would like to do that.

BTW - I am not perfect myself and am not implying that I couldn't do better like eating a little healthier but I try.

I did smoke.  Over a pack a day for about 6 years.  Dipped, too.

While your goals are laudable, I think your approach is more than likely not going to be successful.  People change when *they* want to change.  The only person you can really influence is yourself.  Offering money to someone is probably not going to lead to a lasting lifestyle change.

I wish you the best of luck.  I hope you find someone who takes you up on your offer, and decides that's the push he or she needed to make a permanent lifestyle choice.  It's not really my style to do what you are attempting, though.

    Prince of Fatness

10 days left.  At this point, I am looking for a cheap, irresponsible, short-term, short-sighted 10-day plan.  Wrap this thing tight with an ace bandage and go?

79 miles left and I cannot walk normally.  Trent, really, these ibuprofen dosage limits.  Really.  How serious are you about this?  I know what did this.  It was the flippin' big block shoes.  I learned my lesson.  Can't I just ibu- my way out of it? Ice-heat? Heat-ice? Ice?  Ice-ice? Ice-ice-baby?  Oh, it appears that I now I'm effing corny, too.

79 miles and 10 days left.  Honest to goodness.  If I could walk even semi-normally...this is like tweaking times 11. When you're tweaking, you're waiting for the big day. You know it's coming. This is the bloody inverse...

What the fuck is the matter with you?  Forget the 2000 miles.  Heal up.  Get yourself back running again.  Think big picture.  Jeebus, you're only 32 fucking years old and you're worried about running 79 miles on a bad foot.  You have time.  That 2000 number isn't going anywhere.  Christ I'm 14 years older than you and I just made it to 2000 miles for the first time this year.  If you do things right you can rack up well over 30K more miles by the time you are my age if you choose to do so..

Stop being stupid and heal up.  Nobody but BC will call you a lazy ass, and what does he know?

There is a long dark road ahead of me.

        Quote I stole from Nobby:

        Real runners don't chase miles.

ok [stomps up the stairs, into his bedroom, slams door, iPod over his ears, blasts Good Charlotte, sits on the floor cross-legged, cheeks in hands, frowing at ground, grinding teeth, pounds fist on ground]

If we don’t try we’ll never know. At least I can find out how good I can be.  I can have an answer at the end of the days, and have a hell of a good time with the process. -Desi Davila

Rest for 6 days.  And then go run 79 miles in a year end explosive stunt.

            Scout.  Love it.

I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.

By the way Nader, last year I was 40 - 50 miles ahead of the pace bunny in November when I came down with shin splints.  I didn't make it to 2000.  It pissed me off a little at the time, but after a while realized how stupid it was.  This year I didn't pay much attention to my mileage and it just happened (2000 miles).  All I did was focus on getting out on the roads consistently.  I have no mileage goal for next year either.  I have found that mileage goals can force me into things that I shouldn't be doing.

Forget what Potatoe Head says.  What if you start running next year and something happens that you can't run anymore.  Then you can never run again.  You had your chance at glory to get to 2000 miles and you passed it up because of a little pain.

I liked you better when you were corny and were doing the ice, ice, baby.

I will give you another way.  Run in a pool at your local YMCA or Rec Center or whatever.  Just HTFU.

and perhaps an extra 300 miles would have gotten those two magic minutes.

That is an interesting point.  I still am not a believer in more miles makes you faster.  I think solid miles plus quality/smarter workouts make you faster.  The question is what is the right numbers for me.  I like that I stayed pretty healthy at 2000 miles.

I'm sorry I thought this group was for those people who were annoying and actually trying to get to 2000 miles this year.  Clearly you were not shooting for 2000 miles so you must be annoying too.  Clearly I am trying for both.  Check mark!
