Mikey - when you go to a packy NE can you find any of these bourbons these Tennesseeans are talking about? This review on the Woodfords Seasoned Oak makes me want to go get some, but I don't remember seeing it. I'm usually with you on the middling Knob Creek, though I also like the Jim Beam Black as well.
MTA: then again, I was out getting a pizza from the place around the corner a month ago, and while i waited I ordered some Beam, which is all they had, other than Jack Daniels. Then a guy at the bar started giving me a little shit, he's from TN and I shouldn't be drinking that Kentucky bourbon. It made me think there's some sort of line drawn on bourbon between the two states, but apparently that's not so.
mr train you are a pain, your words - they make me go insane
they strike my ever-thinking brain like little drops of acid rain
oh, to my life you are a bane; crazy, mixed up, mr train - r2e

Damn, I didn't know that the swamp was full of bourbon snobs. I like bourbon but honestly I haven't had many of them. I don't drink hard liquor that often anyway (everything is a beer in my mind).
When I do have bourbon it is usually (cover your eyes Skootr) Makers Mark or Wild Turkey.
There is a long dark road ahead of me.
I will suggest this: give Beam Black a try...it's pretty good, costs less than Makers and is readily available.
Since you seem to know more about bourbon than me I'll take your word for it. I'll look for it and if I see it that will be my next bourbon purchase.

1. Skootr and I speak as Kentuckians (I grew up in L'vul, he lives there)
2. Any distilled spirit made from a grain mash is a whiskey (or whisky)
2.a. A bourbon is a whiskey meeting the following criteria
2.a.i. made from 51-80% corn
2.a.ii. also contains at least two of wheat, rye, barley
2.a.iii. aged in unused charred oak barrels
2.a.iv. made from a sour mash
2.a.v. a bunch of other technical requirements
2.a.vi. made in Kentucky (some debate this)
2.b. A Tennessee sipping whiskey meets the following criteria
2.b.i. filtered through charred maple
2.b.ii. aged in unused charred oak barrels after filtering
2.b.iii. made from a sour mash
2.b.iv. made in Tennessee (some debate this)
3. The guy at the bar is an idiot.
This too:
I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.
Poor baby
I ain't no volunteer, yo.
Sorry about that Scootr. I just assume that everyone in the Swamp that isn't mikey is from Tennessee. My bad.
And Trent- the rule regarding if it has to be made in KY is easy:
Bourbon must be made in the US, but can be made outside of KY.
KY, however is the only state who is allowed to list itself as an appellation (ie: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, as opposed to something like Michters, which is made in Pennsylvania, and therefore is simple listed as "bourbon whiskey")
Bourbon must be aged over four years to be "straight bourbon" and most bourbons qualify accept a few really shitty bum bourbons...that's why Early Times isn't bourbon anymore...they age it less than 2 years now (minimum for Boubon) and so they have to call it "Kentucky Whiskey"...yeach!
Dave
I don't think so.
Run like a kid again!
That's it...it's a good fucking thing I don't have admin powers. Just keep talking shit about Guinness and see what happens here. Keep it up smart guy. Spud, I'll be drinking a Guinness as soon as I get home.

Actually I've been to the top of the Guinness brewery and had a couple of drinks from the tap there. Still don't like the stuff. I like my lunch/dinner in the non liquid form.
Love Ireland though. Awesome country.
Guiness in Ireland ≠≠≠ Guiness in the US.
Apples and Oranges.
First, off I can't beleive I read this whole thread but then again I started it and felt I should.
Secondly, wow we have some heavy drinkers. I never thought drinking and running really went together.
I've never been much of a drinker because my dad was an alcholic. I won't go into that but for some reason I am now worried about "The Skootr" and "Trent". I've always been worried about "Potatoe Head" and "L Train".
The fact you guys can run 2000 miles and still drink like that is amazing. However, I will say that I have run a couple of times after playing poker and drinking six beers (my limit and a lot for me) and had a decent run.
Some people I know will take a shot of something before going to bed every night to help them sleep. Are you guys like that? Is that how you know so much about this stuff.
BCR actually muddles me rather. I'm not sure whether to laugh at him or with him sometimes. It's one of those situations where I want to believe his online persona is actually a carefully constructed facade to hide a steel trap mind. But when I'm being honest I know that's just a pipe dream.
