      19:20

Pre-marathon was eyeing sub-19 for this.  But my legs are not feeling speed yet.

Not completely recovered yet.  Got another one on the 1st.  Hopefully that will be better.

19:24 unofficial.  The course was kinda weird.  More like X-C than anything.  large-stone gravel roads.  two 600m stretches through this weird mushy field that felt like running on sponges.  3 hair-pin turns.  Not really much in the way of hills -- or maybe I'm becoming immune to small rollers.

Chased a guy down to come in 3rd over-all, 1st AE.  Very slow field.  The winner came in at 16:25, 2nd was 18:30 then me.

Best part of the race was there were a few sub-3s there and "boston bound" group people volunteering near the end of the course.  With about a 2/3 a mile to go, Ben (2:45marathoner) from the Sub-3 group gives me a big green-light to catch my quarry.  But you know how your non-running friends see you catching up to someone so they yell in encouragement, "You almost got him!"  Which doesn't nothing more than let the guy know how close you are and that you're gunning for him.  Well, Ben, who ran in college, leans into the course after the guy passes and stage-whispers to me instead.  That really made me happy.

I was pretty happy with the performance considering the course and my lack of speed-work.

Thing I really need to work on is pretty simple: knowing exactly where the finish line is so I can better estimate my kick.

There's a 5K about to start next door - I'm agonna jog over and run it. Goal is low 18s. (Ran a hard workout last night.)

(I just discovered to my surprise that it starts so late that I can still jog over & do it.)

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Fail. 128 and a little extra that they have to measure ( approx 100 meters). Through 100 miles in 17:32:00. I had a really bad stretch from approx 105-115.

Wait -- 128? That would be a big PR, wouldn't it? They had you at 118.5 with an hour to go. Or is my time-zone math wrong...

Yeeeeeaaaah - NO. 18:45. Moved through a pack led by a 5th grader, & had him not far behind me for the rest of the race, so that kept me going.

Oh well, At least I didn't run 100mi and then have to keep running.

HFM. How the hell does one rally after a bad stretch from 105-115? I get calling it a fail since you didn't quite hit your goal, but damn, that's just fucking impressive from my perspective.

                I put it under there.

Fail.  And when your goal is to just get the damn finisher medal that sucks.  DNS.  Lungs are filled with cement.  Gut is filled with...not cement.

I thought you were supposed to be super clever like? 58 minute 100 mile PR, about a 4.5 mile 24 hour PR. I also think I has a sweet hour in there where I put down 2.5-3 miles. It POURED rain for most of the race and all my back up clothes got soaked, and I just froze my ass off throughout the night. It was miserable. Plus the chafing is record setting. On the plus side, Mrs Bock is the best race support ever. She and DB took incredible care of me after the race when I couldn't stand and was trying not to puke on myself. They are really good to me. I could never have done this on my own.

I was (still am) confused because it looks like you put in 10 miles in the last hour?? I am still missing something. Also they still haven't posted results; I thought your 128 might be a typo.

Huge congratulations on the two PRs. That is awesome.

Didnt really think this race was going to happen, but the rain held off.

Finished the 5k in about 34 min. But, it was the first race with the entire family. So, pretty happy about that!

Hah,  my training doesn't support this.  It is what it is.

Fuel & hydration went okay I think.

I basically walked the last lap --  Ache and tiredness in the legs combined with darkness

                                on the trail.

Running tired or in the dark is one thing.  Tired and on a dark trail is

something else.   At least for me this time.   So I wussed out.
