December 10 - 16 racing thread! (Read 680 times)

    HAVE SOME RESPECT.

Total and entire respect for Wrigley and all you!  Tough as nails and none of you go down without a fight.  Black eye

Congrats to Trent on the Eight ball. Condolences to WG on the 131.

and, you know how our coworkers will say they're running a "5K marathon" and again, we are all thinking - IDIOT.

This is a nice 5K marathon report from our neighbors on the other side of the island.

Congrats to Trent, that was a nice run.

I really thought this was a golden opportunity for Ilene to award herself the IFCEB though and I was rooting for her. If I ever take another turn with the weekly fucking racing threads, I'm totally going to do that, btw.

          Runners run.

We're all confused...one the one hand we're all like "Wow Wrigley you are an ass-kicking Goddess!"  and she's all like "I failed at my goal"   and we're all like "But my God woman, you ran farther than ever and in the cold rain!",  and she's like".......

i think if you're an ultra runner, you can give the praise and whatnot because you Understand The Way, but if you're a normal person, you have to just say, sorry about your goal there, WG, better luck next time, you crazy girl you.

File me in the "wow" category...great racing WG and Trent.

I propose a new 9-ball category for the very rare, outstanding performance that still somehow falls short of a runners self-expectations.  to celebrate spectacular failure is somehow more important to me than to celebrate achievement.  it encourages big hairy audacious goal setting.  (especially important since all our goals are self designated and completely arbitrary.)  and 9-ball is somehow a fitting analogy as the game is insanely ordinal and puts a huge premium on being able to stifle your opponent if you cant hit your own shot so that you can bang your head against the wall once again.

                          9 ball

I'm only a 50-mile ultra runner - I maybe can't relate to the distances she & DB ran this weekend. I've heard it said that that is almost a different sport from 50 & below.

                            Never mind that crap.

I just found the preliminary Desert Solstice results   (Stripping out the women)

Connie Gardner: 132.228    (reigning American record holder)

Deb Horn: 131.117    (I'm not sure - maybe she just qualified for Worlds with this race)

                            WG: 128

                            Charlotte Vasarhelyi 114.777
                            Pam Smith 102.650

That looks close among those three elite females on top.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

To be fair, Pam stopped shortly after 100, having run the 2nd-fastest American track 100 by a woman (behind Ann Trason).

There was just loads and loads of awesomeness at this event.
